Louisville softball to face Indiana in NCAA tournament Knoxville Regional elimination game

Louisville softball hit a record-setting three home runs en route to a 9-1 five-inning win over Northern Kentucky (23-32) on Saturday night during the NCAA tournament's Knoxville Regional at Tennessee’s Sherry Parker Lee Stadium.

The Cardinals (36-19) set a new school record with the three homers, reaching 64 on the season. U of L's single-season home run record was previously 63, set in 2013.

The season-extending win was also head coach Holly Aprile's 400th career victory. U of L's 36 wins this season are the program's most since finishing the 2014 campaign with a 36-22 record.

In 54 games, the Cards have now produced 14 wins via the eight-run rule.

Louisville will face Indiana (43-17) in an elimination game Sunday at 2:05 p.m. The winner will advance to the regional final against Tennessee at 4:35 p.m. The Cardinals fell to IU, 4-3, on Friday in their NCAA tournament opener.

U of L junior Vanessa Miller went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs on Saturday while Sarah Gordon went 2-for-3 with her 11th homer and two runs and Hannah File recorded her 12th home run of the season.

Sam Booe (5-0) earned the complete game win, allowing one earned run and scattering three hits while striking out five in five innings for her first career postseason victory.

Saturday’s Knoxville Regional included multiple rain delays totaling over five hours in the first game of the day as host Tennessee beat Indiana 9-1.
