Louisiana football receiver Devon Pauley ends Ragin' Cajun career, citing medical issues

Receiver Devon Pauley’s Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football career is finished.

Pauley cited medical reasons in announcing his decision.

“Cajun nation,” Pauley wrote on Twitter, “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me in with open arms to a kid who had no offers to play anywhere … (a) kid who simply just wanted a chance to prove himself (and) I feel like I did that …

“I also want to thank the entire coaching staff for building me into a better young man and a better leader. … (Due) to multiple knee surgeries (I) think it is in the best interest of my future to hang up the cleats and medically retire.”

Pauley spent four seasons at UL.

The Barbe High product from Lake Charles redshirted in 2018, played mostly on special teams in 2019 and had four catches for 82 yards in 2020 including one for 16 yards in a season-opening upset win at Iowa State.

But Pauley was limited to one catch and five games in 2021, his redshirt junior season.

A former walk-on, he was awarded a scholarship by former coach Billy Napier in December 2019.
