Louisa-Muscatine's Corbin sets scoring record, No. 10 Mediapolis suffers first loss

Louisa-Muscatine's Kaylee Corbin set a school record and the Falcons handed 10th-ranked (Class 2A) Mediapolis its first loss of the season, 41-40, in a SEI Superconference North Division girls basketball game at Letts Thursday night.

Corbin scored 20 against the Bullettes for a a season total of 408, a school record. She sank eight field goals, two of them were 3-pointers. She averages 22.6 points per game.

It snapped the Mediapolis undefeated string at 18 games. The Bullettes are now 14-1 in the North Division. Louisa-Muscatine improved to 14-4 (12-4).

The Falcons led 7-6 at the first quarter mark and the score was knotted at 20-20 at halftime. Mediapolis went up 31-29 at the three-quarter mark, but L-M's 12-9 run in the final eight minutes produced the upset.

The Falcons had an 11-point lead with two minutes left in the game and held on for the win.

McKenna Hohenadel scored seven points for L-M. McKenzie Kissel and Destiney Miller each scored six.

Hallie Mohr led Mediapolis with 14 points. She entered the game with a 21.1 scoring average. Payton Bush scored 12 points for the Bullettes and Jaydon Wirt had six points.

NO. 7 NOTRE DAME 67, NEW LONDON 24: Fourteen Nikes played and 11 of them scored in a South Division win at New London.

Seventh-ranked (Class 1A) Notre Dame was led by the 17-point shooting of Megan Harrell. Abby Korschgen scored 15 points, Reagan Engberg and Maddy Mosena scored seven points each and Gabby Deery added six.

Camryn Lair and Sophie Malott scored six points each to lead New London (0-21, 0-16).

Notre Dame remained undefeated in 19 games, including a 16-0 mark in the South Division.

WEST BURLINGTON 47, VAN BUREN COUNTY 44 (OT): The Falcons needed an overtime to escape Keosauqua with a South Division win over Van Buren County.

West Burlington outscored the Warriors 3-0 in overtime for the win. Van Buren County led at 15-11, 26-21 and 37-32 at the first three quarter stops. West Burlington's 12-7 rally in the fourth quarter knotted the score at 44-all through regulation play.

Abbey Bence led West Burlington and all scorers with 18 points. Taryn Havener scored nine and McKenna Marlow added eight for the Falcons, now 14-5 (12-4).

Kadence Nusbaum led Van Buren County (7-13, 6-10) with 13 points. Jaelyn Boley scored 11 and Zoe Best added 10.

MOUNT PLEASANT 65, BURLINGTON 15: Mount Pleasant's Andrea Lopreato scored 35 points and the Panthers coasted past Burlington in a Southeast Conference game at Mount Pleasant.

Lopreato finished with 13 field goals, one from 3-point range, and she sank eight of 12 free throws. Kenna Lamm scored 16 points for the Panthers, including two 3-pointers. Andi Scott added eight points.

Mya Rehman and Sophie Brown each scored four points for the Grayhounds, Hunter Pender added three.

Mount Pleasant is 9-10 (4-5); Burlington is 0-17 (0-8).

W-MU 47, COLUMBUS 21: Bradie Buffington scored 21 points to lead Winfield-Mount Union to a North Division win over the Wildcats at Columbus Junction.

Jobey Malone scored nine points for the Wolves. Keely Malone scored seven and Keetyn Townsley and Melina Oepping each added five points.

Lily Coil led Columbus with six points. Ariana Vergara, Sera Vela and Libby White each scored five points.

W-MU is 17-3 (14-2); Columbus fell to 3-17 (2-14).

CENTRAL LEE 42, WACO 31: Alivia Myhre scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Hawks past WACO in a South Division game at Wayland,

Macy Watkins scored eight points for Central Lee. Maura Watkins scored seven, Mya Lampe had six and Makayla Morrison added five points.

Ellah Kissell paced WACO with 12 points. Emma Wagler scored nine, Katie Leichty had six and Grace Coble finished with four points.

Central Lee is 13-7 (12-4); WACO slipped to 8-12 (5-11).

DANVILLE 68, CARDINAL 31: Balanced scoring propelled the Bears to a South Division win at Eldon.

Makenzie Morris led Danville with 14 points. Gracianna Walker scored 13, Taylor Moore had 12, Cassidy Yaley had 10 points and Jaeda Molle added eight.

Emma Becker led the Comets with eight points.

Danville evened its overall record at 10-10. The Bears are 9-7 in the South Division. Cardinal is now 4-17 (2-14).

BOYS BASKETBALL

NEW LONDON 73, NOTRE DAME 61: Four Tigers scored in double figures in a South Division win over Notre Dame at New London.

Kade Benjamin led New London with 16 points. Blaise Porter scored 15, Devon Swanson had 13 and Torren Riley added 11 points.

Gedi Boal led the Nikes with 16 points. Jack Brent had 15, Hunter Lillie scored 11 and Carsen Jones had eight points.

New London improved to 16-1 (14-1); Notre Dame is 6-13 (5-9).

VAN BUREN COUNTY 46, WEST BURLINGTON 39: The Warriors knocked off West Burlington in a South Division game at Keosauqua.

Van Buren County (4-14, 3-12) led just 24-23 at halftime.

Brady Martin led West Burlington with 11 points. Mason Watkins had nine points and Jace Figuereo added eight. The Falcons slipped to 8-10 (8-8).

DANVILLE 63, CARDINAL 54: Caiden Gourley poured in 30 points to lead the Bears to a South Division win over Cardinal at Eldon.

Drake Johnson scored 17 points for Danville and Sawyer Nelson added seven,

Dawson Lewis led the Comets with 18 points. Archer Metcalf scored 11 and Reese Pedersen added 10.

Danville improved to 17-2 (13-2); Cardinal fell to 13-7 (8-6).

WACO 67, CENTRAL LEE 44: Ten Warriors scored in a South Division win at Wayland.

Hunter Hughes led WACO and all scorers with 23 points. Zach Schmitz scored nine and Simeon Reichenbach, Taylor Sutton and Cody Graber scored six each.

Brayden Wyrick led Central Lee with 13 points. Alex Sandoval scored 11 and Dante Merschman had six.

WACO is 15-4 (11-4); the Hawks slipped to 0-19 (0-15).

MEDIAPOLIS 48, L-M 30: Ben Egan scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers to lead the Bulldogs past Louisa-Muscatine in a North Division game at Letts.

Cole Lipper scored seven points for Mediapolis and Eli Grier and Jackson Hutcheson scored five points each.

Mediapolis is now 13-5 (12-2); L-M is 2-16 (2-13).

W-MU 73, COLUMBUS 32: Winfield-Mount Union coasted to a North Division win at Columbus Junction.

Timothy Hills led Columbus with 11 points and six rebounds. Oscar Alcala added seven points.

W-MU improved to 18-1 (15-0); Columbus is 4-15 (4-11).
