BOYS BASKETBALL
Division III
Davies 47, Exeter/West Greenwich 42
Nate Borden poured in 18 points and teammate Javon Jesus added 10 points and 5 assists as the Patriots got by the Scarlet Knights. Dylan Carr scored a team-high dozen points for EWG.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Division I
Ponaganset 49, Classical 41
Jaina Yekelchik got the Chieftains rolling early and freshman Giuliana Bachini came up with much needed points late in Ponaganset’s 49-41 win. Yekelchik put up six points in the first quarter and had nine at halftime and, paired with the Chieftains’ terrific defensive effort, had the team up, 22-14, at halftime. Yekelchik hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter that finished with Ponaganset ahead, 35-22. That’s when Shanell Smith-Akpan put forth a superhuman effort. With 13 of the team's 22 points to that point, the junior guard was unstoppable in the fourth quarter. She scored 16 points in the final eight minutes to get the game to single digits and finished with 29 points. Ponaganset was able to hold on thanks to Bachini, who put up 10 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter. Yekelchik led Ponaganset with 15 points and Marron Nerney added six in the win.
Barrington 56, Rogers 28
Four players reached double digits in scoring as Barrington doubled-up on the Rogers. Those filling the twine for the Eagles were Maddie McGill and Riley Grapevine with 12 points each, Janaya Prince Baquero, who knocked down 10 points and Isys Dunphy, who also had 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Westerly 90, St. Raphael 45
St. Raphael's Vanessa PIscione led all scorers with 24 points, including five 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough as four players reached double figures for Westerly and the Bulldogs ran away with the win. Riley Peloquin led the way with 18 points, while Sydney Haik and Nova Woodward each had 15 and Cecelia Saint added 11 for the Saints.
La Salle 70, Juanita 45
A 27-point night by Grace Martone propelled the Rams to victory over the Cavaliers. Also contributing to the win was Lucia Delponte, who scored 11 points. Juanita Sanchez had a strong performance in the loss by Arianna Fernandez, who poured in 20 points.
Cranston West 54, South Kingstown 49
The balanced scoring of Alyssa Robinson (15 points), Olivia Tedeschi-Moran (12), Kyla Buco (10) and Maia Riccio (9) proved to be too much as the Falcons slipped past the Rebels. Finley Carr finished with 15 points and Abby McDonald had 14 for SK.
North Kingstown 48, Scituate 43
Division II
Pawtucket 54, Cranston East 28
Armani Rivera scored her 1,000th career point and didn’t stop scoring as Pawtucket took down down Cranston East. Sitting at 990 points going into the night, Rivera had nine when she stepped to the line for a pair of free throws late in the second quarter. She calmly made the first, giving her the career milestone and celebrated with teammates before being presented with a golden basketball trophy to mark the occasion. After the celebration, Rivera got her emotions together and made her second free throw and kept the Raiders rolling. Rivera finished with 19 points and was joined in double figures by Tiyara Gonzalez, who hit five 3-pointers for her 17-point night.
Smithfield 54, Tiverton 30
Krista Kasparian, Caitlin Kelley, Avery Areson and Ashley Gagner combined to score 37 of the team's 54 points and the Sentinels came away with lopsided win over the the Tigers in a D-II crossover. Jah'niece Branch and Jenna DelDeo scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Tiverton.
Prout 53, Mount Pleasant 26
Molly Green, Ella Martin and Sylvia Mayo totaled 36 points as the Crusaders easily got by the Kilties. Shyonna Hall topped MP in scoring with 10 points and Angelica Taveras and Ameera Quinones had 8 points each.
Division III
Lincoln 46, Pilgrim 32
Lauren Cipriano led the Lions with 17 points while Brielle Lambert chipped in with 12 in the victory. For Pilgrim, Jenna Madden scored 11 points and Amaya Coffie had 10.
Division IV
Davies 47, Blackstone Valley Prep 21
Jojo Ali recorded a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds and Aniyah Gomes wasn’t far behind with 9 points and 18 boards as the Patriots tamed the Pride. Layla Perry had 9 points for BVP.
BOYS SWIMMING
Division I
North Kingstown 65, Prout 27 (Thu.)
North Kingstown's Zach Szabo won the 200-medley relay, 100 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and swam a leg for the winning, 400 free relay and 200 medley relay teams, helping the Skippers to the victory on Thursday. Evan Wysor also helped the Skippers pile up the points by winning the 500 free and swimming on the 200-medley relay and 400 free relay teams. Jackson Meier added wins in the 50 free and 100 butterfly to go along with his legs in the 200-medley relay and 400-free relay teams. Will Schatz did his part as well, winning the 200 free and contributing in the 400 free relay and 200 free relay races.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Division I
Prout 50, North Kingstown 44 (Thu.)
Prout's Liz Rak raced to victory in the 200-freestyle race and contributed to a win in the 200-medley relay as the Crusaders held off the Skippers on Thursday. Clare Carroll won the 200 IM, 100 back, and was part of the 400 free relay team for NK. Sofia Simas won the 50 free and was part of the winning 400 free relay for the Skippers.
