Looks like Cousins will start for Washington
Barring a change of heart by Washington coach Mike Shanahan, quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to take over as the starter from Robert Griffin III for the remainder of the season. On Monday, Shanahan said he was considering the move to Cousins to keep Griffin healthy for the 2014 season even though Griffin has not sustained any further injury this season after his torn ACL at the end of the 2012 season.
A source on the Washington staff said the play as of Wednesday morning was to switch to Cousins, although the situation remains in flux. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports was the first to report the likely change.
The larger question is whether this move is a further effort by Shanahan to get owner Dan Snyder to fire him. There has been growing tension between the coach, quarterback and now the owner for months. The tension blew up with a series of stories that appeared last week, including one from ESPN on Sunday indicating that Shanahan considered quitting at the end of last season because of concerns over the overly friendly relationship between Snyder and Griffin.
