New London and South Central girls earn multiple All-Firelands Conference selections

The 2023-24 season turned out to be a highly successful year for the New London girls basketball team and they were awarded by the Firelands Conference with multiple all-conference selections.

New London went 20-5, won their first league title in 22 years by going undefeated in the conference (14-0) and made the school's first district final since 2016. Five players made the All-Firelands Conference girls team in senior Emilee Rowland (first team), senior Alyssa Henry (second team), sophomore Raeann Mitchell (second team), sophomore Valery Henry (second team) and sophomore Gracie Thomas (honorable mention).

New London head coach Eric Mitchell received Coach of the Year honors.

The team that finished with the second most team selections was South Central (17-7), who finished second in the conference (11-3) and was a Division IV district semifinalist. Senior Grace Lamoreaux (11.2 points, 12.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.9 steals per game averages during the regular season) won Firelands Conference Player of the Year and earned first-team honors.

Joining Lamoreaux on the first team was senior teammates Kendyl Beverly (led league in scoring at 23.2 points per game) and Angela Williams.

Mapleton senior Heidi Earl also earned first-team honors, while teammates Audrey Hellickson made the second team and Kristen Flora was an honorable mention choice.

Joining Lamoreaux, Beverly, Williams, Rowland and Earl on the first team was Monroeville's Ava Krueger and Plymouth's Jaylin Branham.

Other honorable mention picks were South Central's Kaili Ingram and Crestview's Lilly Cline.
