Local Sports: Mason sweeps jamborees; Monroe volleyball wins

OTTAWA LAKE – Erie Mason’s boys and girls both took first place in a Tri-County Conference cross country jamboree Whiteford hosted Tuesday.

The Eagle girls finished with 34 points to 57 for runner-up Whiteford.

Bailey Meiring ran second to lead Mason while teammates Elizabeth Lambert, Alexis Colburn, Riley England and Mikaela Graves went 7-8-10-18.

Whiteford teammates Braelynn Chiotti, Annabelle Gapp and Emily Rasor finished 6-8-11.

Makenna Shipe was 23rd for Summerfield, which did not field a full team.

Keegan Masters of Whiteford was the individual boys winner in 17:20.

Parker Campbell, Austin Sulier, Collin Parent, Jackson Carner and Brayden Hincher finished 3-4-11-14-17 as Mason scored 40 points to beat runner-up Morenci by 14.

Whiteford placed Zach Kahn 10th and Shaun Cowen led Summerfield.

CROSS COUNTRY

Rubley wears crown

HILLSDALE – Dundee’s Isaak Rubley was the boys winner with a time of 16:43.86 in a Lenawee County Athletic Association jamboree Tuesday.

Clinton took the team championship with 56 points. Dundee was fifth with 113 and Ida eighth with 156.

Dylan Tengler (14th) and Luke Stanley (17th) led Ida.

Ida placed Katelyn Bydlowski sixth and Julia Hughes 13th in the girls race. Kaylee Hovey of Dundee was eighth.

Lydia Richards, Natalie Swisher, Sophia Crom, Ryan Cooley, Caiden Brown, Ethan Eby, Braydon Ost, Matthew Morales, Jaxson Arecheja, and Lukas Cranson also hit season-best times for Dundee.

Clinton took the girls team title.

Monroe pulls out win

ANN ARBOR – Trinity Sieb and Avery Leach combined for 30 service points and Sophia Bussell had three consecutive kills in the final set as Monroe pulled out 25-20, 18-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-7 win over Ann Arbor Huron Tuesday.

Alana Aulph (21 digs), Bailey Benvenuto (16 assists), and Ally Younglove (9 kills) also played well.

Presley Johnson, Saniyah Lake, and Alle Marcero led the junior varsity in a 25-17, 25-18, 15-12 loss and the freshmen won 25-20, 25-17, 15-7.

Bedford hits .394

TEMPERANCE – Bedford hit .394 as a team in rolling over Saline 25-22, 25-14, 25-22 Tuesday.

Victoria Gray (13 kills), Macy Madalinski (8 kills), and Kadie Morse (5 kills) led the hitters. Morse and Gray also recorded 4 blocks each.

Kaylin Schroeder accumulated 23 assists and 13 digs and Mya Krohn led the defense.

Hayden Fausze, Kamryn Puccetti, and Blair Russow led the junior varsity to a 23-25, 25-22, 15-12 win and the freshmen also were victorious.

Ida gets job done

IDA – Ida was very efficient in a 25-20, 25-11, 25-13 win over Hudson Tuesday.

“The girls played very well tonight,” said Ida coach Ashley Begeman. “They came in and got the job done.”

Mia Karl had 6 kills and 2 blocks while hitting .750. Gabby Gobrecht added 6 blocks and 4 kills, Ellie Jones 13 digs and 4 kills, and Jessica Schrader 16 digs.

Dundee Irwin shines

DUNDEE – Kennedy Irwin racked up 16 digs and 14 kills to lead Dundee past Onsted 27-25, 25-20, 25-15 Tuesday.

Briley Bordine led the defense with 19 digs and Lola Salenbien logged 28 assists.

Fisher leads defense

PETERSBURG – Ava Fisher collected 15 digs for Summerfield in a 26-24, 25-16, 28-26 loss to Stockbridge Tuesday.

Mia Samples, Mia Miller, and Jaeli Jones also played well for the Bulldogs, who won the junior varsity match 25-22, 25-16, 15-7 as Skyler Johnson served 12 points with 3 aces.

Monroe rally falls short

MONROE – Monroe came back from a two-goal halftime deficit but fell 3-2 to Dexter Tuesday.

“We had considerably more of the ball, but too many missed chances cost us in the end,” Monroe coach Ian Cooke said.

Trevor Mann and Vishwas Joshi scored for the Trojans and Bryson Lane and Talen Swinkey earned assists.

Nejedlik, Ryan win

TEMPERANCE – Jaxon Nejedlik and Carter Ryan had nice singles wins for Bedford in a 6-2 loss to Ann Arbor Huron Tuesday.

Duran wins in three

MONROE – Azariah Duran came back after dropping the first set 3-6 to win the next two 6-4, 6-0 and earn a win at No. 1 singles for Monroe in a 7-1 loss to Dexter Tuesday.

Luhrs leads Milan

MILAN – Kierra Luhrs won the 50-yard freestyle and butterfly and swam on two winning relays to lead Milan to a 110-64 victory over St. Mary Catholic Central Tuesday.

Kam Stripp, Brianna Pumfrey, Kaylin Brown, Mega McChesney, Mary Kate Wayne, and Krista Cook also won events. Emma Brown and Lily Rader stood out in new events.

SMCC’s McKenzie Kidd won the breaststroke and the Kestrels took the 400 freestyle relay with Maya Zaleski, Monika Burkhardt, Kate Rutkowski, and Kaylee Kamprath.

Vikings hit 29 bests

TECUMSEH – The medley relay of Lily Ratliff, Kaylee Imo, Sara Carter, and Joslyn Ball hit a state-qualifying time and Ball did the same in the 500-yard freestyle for Dundee in a 113-61 win over Tecumseh Tuesday.

Brook Hester, Kaylee Desbrough, Kaylee Imo, and Audrey Przybylski were other standouts for the Vikings.

PREP GOLF

Huron balanced

NEW BOSTON – All four of New Boston Huron’s top players were within a stroke of each other in a 196-215 loss to Grosse Ile Monday.

Madison Wilson carded a round of 53 while Brooklyn Burke, Addison Bozynski, and Adriana Skene hit 54.

Taylor is medalist

ADRIAN – Cameron Taylor tied for medalist honors with a round of 58 to lead Summerfield past Sand Creek 261-282 Tuesday.

Brea Olmsted added a 60 for the Bulldogs.
