LOCAL ROUNDUP: BHRA boys basketball clinches share of VVC title

Feb. 8—BISMARCK — The Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin boys basketball team got a little closer to the Vermilion Valley Conference title on Tuesday.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a big lead and was able to beat Georgetown-Ridge Farm 69-29 on Tuesday for their 15th straight win.

Micah Stanford had 23 points to lead the Blue Devils, who had a 49-11 halftime lead, while Chaz Dubois and Landon Leigh each had 12 points, Ayden Ingram had 10 and Keison Peoples had six,

Deven Vice and JJ Hall each had eight points to lead the Buffaloes, while Austin Grider had six and Jase Latoz added five.

The Blue Devils will take on Salt Fork on Friday, while the Buffaloes will face Hoopeston Area on Friday.

WESTVILLE — The Westville boys basketball team jumped out to a 33-9 first quarter lead and went on to a 92-35 win over Schlarman Academy on Tuesday.

Easton Barney had a career night with a game-high 25 points for the Tigers, while Cameron Steinbaugh had 15, Drew Wichtowski had 13, Matthew Darling had nine and Preston Wright and Aiden White each added six points.

Ricky Soderstrom led the Hilltoppers with 14 points, while Noah Fowler had nine and Princeton Rush, Peyton Kuemmerle and Jamarrea McNeal each had three points.

At Westville

HOOEPSTON — The Hoopeston Area boys basketball team battled back and forth with Watseka on Tuesday, but the Cornjerkers came out with a 60-53 win.

Kendrick Sigerill had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Hoopeston Area, while Wyatt Eisenmann had 19, Mason Rush had 12 and Owen Root added 11.

Hagen Hoy, Evan LaBelle and Myles Lynch each had 13 for the Warriors.

Hoopeston Area will travel to Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Friday.

DANVILLE — The First Baptist boys basketball team defeated Westfair Christian 65-48 in the final game of the regular season on Tuesday.

Jeremiah Watson had 19 points for the Knights, while Eli Epling added 15 points.

First Baptist will take part in the IACS regionals next week.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Salt Fork 50, Iroquois West 24

CATLIN — The Salt Fork girls basketball team won a makeup game with Iroquois West on Tuesday with a 50-24 victory.

Alexa Jamison had 23 points to lead the Storm, while Macie Russell had 14 points and Brycie Hird and Sailor Pacot each had four points.

The Storm will return to action today against Schlarman Academy.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Purdue 77, Illinois 72

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Illini battled back from being down 13 points to force overtime, but lost to the Boilermakers on Monday

Kendall Bostic had a season-high 24 points with 15 rebounds for the Illini, while Adalia McKenzie had 15 points, a career-high 17 rebounds and five assists.

Makira Cook had 14 points with eight assists and two blocks, Genesis Bryant had nine points, four rebounds and four assists and Camille Hobby had five points and five rebounds.

The Illini are 10-11 and 4-7 in the Big Ten and will return to the State Farm Center today to play Northwestern at 6 p.m.
