Jul. 10—Marian grad to own pair of AIF teams

BALTIMORE, Md. — Marian alumnus Dominic Montero is the owner of a pair of teams that will compete in the American Indoor Football League for the 2024.

Montero is the owner of the Cedar Rapids River Kings and River City Rage. The River Kings will play their home games at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa, while the River City Rage will call the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, their home.

"I am excited to bring the Cedar Rapids River Kings and the River City Rage into the American Indoor Football League," Montero said in a press release Monday. "Football has always been a passion of mine, and I chose Cedar Rapids and Council Bluffs because these cities possess a rich football tradition and a fan base that is hungry for exciting indoor football action. I am committed to building competitive teams and creating a thrilling game-day experience for our fans."

After graduating from Marian, Montero went on to play at Valley Forge Military Academy and Glenville State before playing professional indoor football for the Salina Liberty and Bismarck Bucks. He then served as the general manager and offensive line coach for the Topeka Tropics in the 2022 season, and was the president and assistant coach for the Omaha Beef.

The River Kings and Rage join the Corpus Christi Tritons and West Virginia Roughriders in the four-team league that is being relaunched for 2024. For more information on the league, visit www.AIFProIndoorFootball.com.
