Texas A&M-Kingsville holds off No. 20 West Georgia in home opener

Texas A&M-Kingsville used a 13-point second quarter to take the lead for good in 20-17 win against No. 20 West Georgia in the Javelinas' home opener on Saturday at Javelina Stadium.

Just like last week's season opener against Colorado Mesa, it was the kicking of Gilbert Garza and defense that sparked A&M-Kingsville against the Wolves.

Garza was perfect on both of his field goal attempts and Khalid Walker intercepted a Ben Whitlock pass and ran 26 yards for a touchdown to give the Javelinas a 13-3 halftime lead.

The Javelinas added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard pass from quarterback Kannon Williams to Jackson Allen. West Georgia scored its final touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter, but A&M-Kingsville ran out the clock to secure the win.
