HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Nauset duo breaks school records in season opener indoor track meet

The Nauset boys and girls indoor track team went a combined 4-0 in their season opening meet. The Nauset girls defeated Nantucket 94-4 and St. John Paul II 79-21. Nauset sophomore Violet Roche won the long jump with a jump of 16-03.25, and she won the high jump, breaking her previous school record with a jump of 5-02. For the boys, the Warriors beat Nantucket 65-25, and St. John Paul II 76.5-18.5. Nauset senior Damian Bebber won the 300m, and broke his previous school record with a time of 36.48.

Girls Indoor Track

Barnstable 59, Martha's Vineyard 39: Chloe Dibb was a double winner for the Red Hawks in the 300m and 600m in 45.05 and 1:45.93 respectively. Senior captain Lilly DeDecko was also a double winner in the one and two mile in 5:35 and 12:01. Kera Clifford, Sophie Murphy and Emma Steenstra swept the 1000 for Barnstable.

Boys Indoor Track

Barnstable 52, Martha's Vineyard 25: Daniel Sanderson and Willie Fajardo-Doss placed first and second in the 55m in 6.98 and 7.04 respectively for the Red Hawks. Teammates Jahi Kilburn and Jameer Anderson placed first and second in the 300m in 38.4 and 39.21. The 4x200m team of Anderson, Kilburn, Fajardo-Doss and Sanderson placed first with the fastest time of the day in 1:37.1. Captain Jaxson Merrill also won the 1000m in 2:46.1 for Barnstable.

Girls Basketball

Dennis-Yarmouth 67, Cape Cod Academy 30: Chloe Azoff scored 23 points to lead the Dolphins (1-0) to a season opener road win over the Seahawks (1-1). Siena Lauze finished with 16 points, while Abby Conover (10 points) and Jaylene Pires (six points) also contributed for D-Y. Lili Shanahan scored 21 points and reached her 1,000th career point in the loss tonight for Cape Cod Academy.

St. John Paul II 52, Nantucket 22: The Lions (2-0) scored 52 in back-to back games to start the season as they beat the Whalers (0-3). Marlo Jumper had 15 points, six assists and three steals, while Devin Crofford posted 13 points and four rebounds for JPII.. Raegan Dillon (eight points, four steals, four rebounds), Katelyn Lawson (seven points) and Michaela Enright (six points, four rebounds) also contributed.

Falmouth 63, Monomoy 42: Teagan Lind had 26 points to lead the Clippers (1-0) in the season opener win over the Sharks (0-1). Hailey Lynch had nine points, and Jaylynn Fernandez added eight points for Falmouth. KiKi Pigo-Cronin led the Sharks with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Kylie Mawn finished with 10 points, and Jojo Ready chipped in nine points.

Nauset 55, Martha’s Vineyard 40: The Warriors (1-1) picked up their first win of the season as they handed the Vineyarders (1-1) their first loss. Jordyn Streitmatter led the Warriors with a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Gabby Foster scored 13 points, while Sammi McIsaac contributed nine points and six rebounds. Darien Falk led the defense and added four points and five rebounds.

Delilah Oliver had a game-high 18 points in the loss, while Avery Mulvey flirted with a double with eight points and eight rebounds for the Vineyarders.

Barnstable 60, New Bedford 59: Molly Gleason had ice in her veins as she knocked down the winning three-pointer with 25 seconds left, and finished with 24 points for the Red Hawks (1-0) season opener win.

Sandwich 45, Dighton-Rehoboth 22: Junior Maddie Lawrence led the Lady Knights (1-0) in the season opener with 19 points. Sophomore Paige Morrison was a force on defense with eight steals, and junior Ayla Whitney controlled the paint with seven rebounds for Sandwich.

Boys Basketball

Bourne 66, Nantucket 39: After a Round of 8 appearance in the MIAA state tournament last season, the Canalmen (1-0) started their road back to the postseason with a season opener road victory. Nate Reynolds led the offense with 18 points, while Mike Dankert added 16 points and Dominic Quelle scored 14 points. Jack Halik led the Whalers (0-1) with 16 points.

Monomoy 62, Falmouth 54: In the first game of the season for both teams, the Sharks (1-0) edged out a win over the Clippers (0-1). Tamarr Washington led the way with 22 points, while Jackson Rocco followed up with 17 points for Monomoy. Sam Stoermer led Falmouth on offense with a game-high of 25 points.

Barnstable 71, New Bedford 64: The Red Hawks are off to a 2-0 start for the first time in a decade. Gabe Pichardo led the way with a career and game high of 23 points. Kauan Desa finished with 18 points, Ka'Ron Ford recorded 10 points, and Kayden Fortes scored his first varsity points with four.

Upper Cape 44, South Shore Voke 36: The Rams (1-0) started their season with a win led by freshman Sam Reynolds with a game high double double of 14 points and 17 rebounds. Senior captain Damin Taravas battled through first half foul trouble, but still finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Jared Coates and sophomore Patrick Acord played well on defense.

Martha’s Vineyard 58, Nauset 50: The Vineyarders (1-0), who made the MIAA playoffs Round of 16 last season, started this year with a win over the Warriors (0-2).

Dennis-Yarmouth 88, Cape Cod Academy 42: The Dolphins (1-0) started their season with a win over the Seahawks (0-2).

Girls Swimming and Diving

Nantucket 95, Nauset 74: The Whalers picked up the win over the Warriors.

Boys Swimming and Diving

Nauset 91, Nantucket 56: The Warriors beat the Whalers.
