Louisiana Tech football comeback bid against Western Kentucky falls short Thursday night

Bulldogs defensive back Cedric Woods intercepted Hilltoppers quarterback Austin Reed two snaps into the game, and running back Tyre Simpson capitalized by rushing for a 25-yard touchdown to open the scoring. From there, though, the first half was all WKU, scoring five unanswered touchdowns. When backup kicker Buck Buchanan's 54-yard field goal attempt was blocked on the final play of the first 30 minutes, the teams went into the locker rooms with Louisiana Tech down 28 points.

The Bulldogs snapped the run in the third quarter, when quarterback Jack Turner found receiver Kyle Maxwell in the end zone for the redshirt senior's first touchdown since 2020. Turner added a rushing touchdown later in the third, and Shelton scored his second touchdown with just minutes remaining in regulation. After one last defensive stand, Turner was intercepted with under two minutes remaining to end the Louisiana Tech comeback hopes.

The Bulldogs travel to Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday.
