The opening day of action brought with it the first two rounds of action in all three of Iowa's classes. There was plenty of excitement and even a few upsets throughout the day.

9:27 p.m. — Don Bosco leads early 1A team standings

Don Bosco holds a slim lead over Wilton in the 1A team standings through the second round.

The Dons have 50.5 points to the Beavers' 45.5. That is a wrap for Day 1 of the Iowa boys high school state wrestling tournament. See everyone back here at 9 a.m. Thursday morning for the 2A quarterfinals and consolations.

9:20 p.m. — Falls dominate second round of 1A 285 matches

There were seven victories by fall during the 1A second round at 285.

Mason Knipp (Columbus Catholic), Michael Block (Sibley-Ocheyedan), Aiden Salow (Maquoketa Valley), Trenton Warner (Nodaway Valley), Gage Jorgenson (Emmetsburg), Logan Wright (West Branch) and Cody Fox (East Buchanan) all scored a pin. Payton Jacobe (AC/GC) won by decision.

9:13 p.m. — Kyler Sallis outlasts Henry Lund at 215

Don Bosco's Kyler Sallis won a 16-14 slugfest over AHSTW's Henry Lund during the 1A second round at 215.

Brady Davis (Maquoketa Valley), David Smith (West Hancock, Britt), Emmitt Fleshman (Alburnett), Parker Timp (South Winneshiek), Jack Hiland (Bellevue) and Ashton Honnold (Nodaway Valley) also won by decision during the 1A second round at 215. Eli Green (Interstate 35) added a victory by fall.

9:07 p.m. — Two wrestlers stay unbeaten in 1A at 195

North Butler's MaKade Bloker and WACO's Louden Huisenga remained unscathed at 190 after picking up wins in the 1A second round.

Bloker (37-0) pinned East Buchanan's Tanner Thurn. Huisenga (35-0) scored a 7-0 victory over Wapsie Valley's Drew Lansing.

Landon Fernandez (Don Bosco) and Kale Zuehl (West Hancock, Britt) both won by major decision. Tate White (Nashua-Plainfield) and Tate Haffner (Southwest Valley) each won by decision, and Nathan Beitz (Maquoketa Valley) and Taite Peach (Iowa Valley, Marengo) both won by fall.

8:57 p.m. — Titus Evans remains perfect at 175

Nashua-Plainfield's Titus Evans went to 28-0 at 175 after pinning Woodbury Central's Carter Wright during the 1A second round.

Kaiden Knaack (Don Bosco), Jace Nelson-Brown (Emmetsburg), Zach Robbins (Treynor) and Gatlin Rogers (Wilton) also won by fall at 175. Jayden Dickerson (Shenandoah) and Kile Bucknell (Jesup) won by major decision and Creighton Kelly (West Hancock, Britt) earned a win by decision.

8:53 p.m. — Colfax-Mingo's John McGill dominates at 165

Colfax-Ming's John McGill went to 41-1 at 165 after pinning Saint Ansgar's Regan Witt in 3:57 during the 1A second round.

Ryan Stiles (Earlham) also won by fall. Bode Stanley (Interstate 35), Clay Wilgenbusch (East Buchanan), Lincoln Blickenderfer (Central Springs), Justin Wirtz (Emmetsburg), Jackson Kounkel (Hinton) and Maddox Nelson (Underwood) all won competitive matches by decision.

8:48 p.m. — Don Bosco's Kyler Knaack remains perfect

Don Bosco's Kyler Knaack went to 25-0 at 157 after pinning Iowa Valley's Nolan Kriegel in just 39 seconds during the 1A second round.

Will Buckholdt (Underwood), Wyatt Vanderwerff (Jesup) and Kellen Smith (West Hancock, Britt) all won by fall at 157. Jackson Carey (Nashua-Plainfield) and  Owen Laughlin (Shenandoah) won by major decision and Kayden Baxter (AHSTW) and Kanen Decker (Wapsie Valley) won by decision.

8:41 p.m. — Keaton Moeller goes to 43-1 at 150

Starmont's Keaton Moeller went to 43-1 at 150 with a 15-0 tech fall over Ridgeview's Conner Jacobson in the 1A second round.

Easton Krall (Wapsie Valley) and Danny Kinsella (Treynor) won by fall and Carter Metcalf (Pleasantville), Reece Klostermann (Alburnett), Taven Moore (Riverside, Oakland), Kaden Abbas (AGWSR) and Jacob McGargill (Shenandoah) each won by decision.

8:32 p.m. — North Tama's Kolt Knaack still unbeaten at 144

North Tama's Kolt Knaack went to 44-0 at 144 by pinning Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's Isaiah Malm in 2:41 during the 1A second round.

Corbin Reisz (Logan-Magnolia), Collin Holm (South Winneshiek), Charlie Veit (East Sac County) and Boden White (Denver) also won by fall in the second round at 144. Jordan Dusenberry (Wilton) won by tech fall and Zane Mullenix (Pleasantville) and Tiernan Boots both won by decision.

8:26 p.m. —  Preston Klostermann gets 50th victory at 138

Alburnett's Preston Klostermann went to 50-3 on the season at 138 with a fall over I-35's Korbyn Maxwell during the 1A second round.

Underwood's Blake Allen moved to 18-0 at 138 by pinning Jesup's Dawson Bell in 1:38. Gabriel Brisker (Wilton), Holden Mathis (MFL MarMac), Teague Smith (West Hancock, Britt) and Ethan Christoffer (Don Bosco) also won by fall at 138 in the 1A second round.

Steve Brandenburg (Lake Mills) and Caleb Cook (Pleasantville) both avanced with close wins by decision.

8:21 p.m. — Tanner Arjes moves to 44-0

North Butler-Clarksville's Tanner Arjes moved to 44-0 at 132 with a tech fall over West Hancock's Ethan Gayken in the 1A second round.

Ryan Groom (North Mahaska) also won by tech fall and Jadyn Friedrichs (Akron-Westfield), Brody Brisker (Wilton) and Dawson Youngblut (Don Bosco) each won by fall. Brand Beaver (Woodbury Central), Landon Price (Lake Mills) and Carson Thomsen (Underwood) each won by decision.

8:12 p.m. — West Sioux's Jesse Lewis stays unbeaten

West Sioux's Jesse Lewis went to 43-0 at 126 with a fall over Central Community's Braxton Bormann during the 1A second round.

Tayten Coufal (Alburnett), Caleb Swedin (Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire), Brock Morris (Cascade) and Kolton Munson (Ogden) also won by fall in the 1A second round at 126. Owen Adlfinger (Wilton) won by major decision and Brayden Scheffers (Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas) and axon Larson (Don Bosco) won by decision.

8:08 p.m. — Rowdy Neighbor rolls into the third round

Alburnett's Rowdy Neighbor my have the best name of any wrestler competing at state.

He is also one of the more talented wrestlers, as evident by his win by fall in four minutes over Riverside's Kellen Oliver in the 1A second round at 120.

Eli Becerra (Missouri Valley) also won by fall at 120. Cael Morrow (Akron-Westfield) won by tech fall, Tegan Slaybaugh (AC/GC) won by major decision and Dawson Jacobsen (Central Springs), Luke Guseman (Highland, Riverside), Ayden Beck (Baxter) and Max Pollock (Wayne, Corydon) won by decision.

8 p.m. — Gavin Landers dominates at 113

Denver's Gavin Landers moved to 43-0 at 113 with a fall over Westwood's Jesse Burton in three minutes flat during the 1A second round.

Mason Shirk (Wilton), Brock Shaha (Mount Ayr), Dallas Canoyer (Earlham) and Cooper Hinz (Jesup) also won by fall during the 1A second round at 113. WACO's Gage Samo won by a 3-1 decision over Martensdale St. Marys' Jensen Dyer, Nic Brase (Nashua-Plainfield) and Tommy Booth (Pleasantville) each won by major decision.

7:52 p.m. — The second round of 1A competition begins!!

The second round of the 1A boys state wrestling championships is underway.

Wesley Sadler (Lisbon), Crosby Yoder (Logan-Magnolia), Liam Adlfinger (Wilton) and Lucas Oldenkamp (Lake Mills) all won by fall at 106. Hayden Schwab (Don Bosco) and Atlee Dewitt (Alburnett) picked up victories by tech fall, and Ethan Humphrey (West Branch) and Ayden Bergman (Jesup) won by decision.

7:45 p.m. — Garrett Hoy wins by one point at 285

Iowa Valley's Garrett Hoyt is moving on to the 1A second round at 285 after edging Griswold's RJ Dishong by a 3-2 decision during the first round.

Denver's Cody Koepke won by sudden victory (6-1) over Alta/Aurelia's Angel Barajas and  Jonah Reiling (Lisbon) also won by decision at 285. Derek Hilsenbeck (Wapsie Valley),  Jace Henderson (MVAOCOU), Isaac Cox (Cardinal Community) and Cooper Marvel (Southwest Iowa) all won by fall.

7:41 p.m. — Grant Henderson prevails by sudden victory

Sumner-Fredericksburg's Grant Henderson advanced to the second round of 1A competition at 215 with an exciting 7-5 win by sudden victory over ACGC's Carter Richter.

Hinton's Bode Binneboese also won a close won at 215, defeating Lawton-Bronson's Marcus Silva by a 3-2 decision. Lisbon's Indy Ferguson edged Kingsley-Pierson's Peyton Hackett by a 9-7 decision and West Branch's Quintyn Rocha pulled off a 6-4 win over Logan-Magnolia's Carson Edney.

Parker Timp (South Winneshiek) and Aiden Sullivan (Nashua-Plainfield) won by major decision and Kyler Sallis (Don Bosco) and Emmitt Fleshman (Alburnett) won by fall.

7:31 p.m. — Four wrestlers get a fall at 190

Four 1A wrestlers earned a fall during the first round at 190.

Jacob Bishop (Hinton), Hayden Heun (Underwood), Taite Peach (Iowa Valley, Marengo) and Taite Peach (Iowa Valley, Marengo) all put their opponent's shoulders on the mat. Clarinda's Bryson Harris won by major decision Tanner Thurn (East Buchanan), Blake Myrtue (Ridge View) and Bryce Wiskus (Kuemper Catholic) won by decision.

7:24 p.m. — Regina's Will Aitchison survives at 175

Iowa City Regina's Will Aitchison held off Leonx's Jordan Martin-England by a 5-4 decision to advance to the 1A second round at 175.

Panorama's Cayden Van Meer won by decision, CAM's Owen Hoover won by tech fall and Noah Henderson (Sumner-Fredericksburg), Gabe Anderson (Hinton), Terrian Islas (East Union),  Carter Wright (Woodbury Central) and Callyn Bishop (Baxter) each won by fall.

7:19 p.m. — Lincoln Blickenderfer gets tough win at 165

Central Springs' Lincoln Blickenderfer earned a hard-fought 4-1 victory over MFL MarMac's Quinn Mcgeough at 165 during the 1A first round.

Regan Witt (Saint Ansgar), Bode Stanley (Interstate 35), Clay Wilgenbusch (East Buchanan), Tate Bieret (Kuemper Catholic) and Hunter Sauer (Alburnett) all won by fall. Kyle Kuboushek (South Winneshiek) and Jensen Boorn (Wilton) each picked up a win by decision.

7:12 p.m. — Jackson Carey wins tight battle with Garrett Ham

Nashua-Plainfield's Jackson Carey held off Lake Mills' Garret Ham by a 6-5 decision during the 1A first round at 157.

Iowa Valley's Nolan Kriegel earned a close 4-2 win over Kuemper Catholic's Jake Irlbeck in the other close match at 157. Jackson Verschoor (Woodbury Central), Kanen Decker (Wapsie Valley) and Will Buckholdt (Underwood) won by decision, and Jett Rose (Riverside, Oakland), Wyatt Vanderwerff (Jesup) and Brogan Lake (Hinton) all won by fall.

7:05 p.m. — Jared Rodriguez's close win stands out at 150

West Central Valley's Jared Rodriguez stood out in the 1A first round at 150 by winning a tough 9-6 decision over Sibley-Ocheyedan's Aidan Beyer.

Carter Metcalf (Pleasantville), Jacob McGargill (Shenandoah) and William Lawson (Pocahontas Area) all won by fall at 150. Conner Jacobson (Ridge View), Taven Moore (Riverside, Oakland) and Nate Wood (North Cedar, Stanwood) all won by major decision and Reece Klostermann (Alburnett) won by decision.

6:59 p.m. — A lot of good competition in 1A at 144

There were five matches decided by decision in the 1A first round at 144.

Nodaway Valley's Carmine Shaw defeated Alburnett's Dawson Becker by a 7-4 decision, Pleasantville's Zane Mullenix earned a 6-1 win over Jesup's Kaden Lange and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's Isaiah Malm pulled off an 8-4 win over East Buchanan's Colton Torres. Nashua-Plainfield's Devon Blanchard added an 8-2 win over West Central Valley's Trenton Naragon and Hinton's Mark Gant defeated North Union's Gavyn Morphew, 8-1.

West Branch's Auron Marsh won the closest match of the round, defeating Woodbine's Brenner Sullivan by a 2-0 decision.

Lucas Bose (Underwood) and Jaxon Gordon (Riverside, Oakland) both won by fall.

6:52 p.m. — Don Bosco's Ethan Christoffer dominates at 138

Don Bosco's Ethan Christoffer pinned Missouri Valley's Luke Cleaver in just 34 seconds during the 1A first round at 138.

Dawson Bell (Jesup),  Holden Koele (Woodbury Central),  Brant Freeberg (Tri-Center, Neola), Aidan Timm (Belle Plaine) and Korbyn Maxwell (Interstate 35) also won by fall. Wapello's Zach Harbison earned a 7-3 victory over Wapsie Valley's Dallas Tisue and Pleasantville's Caleb Cook pulled off a 9-3 win over Fort Dodge St. Edmond's Sam Myer.

6:46 p.m. — West Hancock's Ethan Gayken survives at 132

West Hancock wrestler Ethan Gayken won by sudden victory during the 1A first round at 132. Gayken defeated Riverside's Jack Branan by an 11-9 decision.

West Branch's also won by decision, defeating Riceville's Chance Christensen bt a 7-1 decision.

The rest of the 1A field at 132 was not competitive. Ethan Krall (Jesup), Kai Carritt (Logan-Magnolia), Tully Wood (Wayne, Corydon), Trey Ramer (Durant), Bradyn Burns (East Sac County) and Landon Price (Lake Mills) all won by fall.

6:38 p.m. — More close matches at 126

The closer matches at 120 may be starting a trend. There were five victories by decision at 126.

North Mahaska's Joel DeJong pulled off a 4-2 win over Logan-Magnolia's Max Wingert, Central Community's Braxton Bormann earned a 5-2 victory over Wapsie Valley's Brody Kleitsch and Saint Ansgar's Christian Michels won by a 10-3 decision over West Hancock's Jacob Larson. Sioux Central's earned a 13-8 victory over Missouri Valley's Luke Schroeder and New London's Gage Burden won the closest match with a 9-8 victory over Riverside's Jordan Smith.

Owen Adlfinger (Wilton) won by major decision and Payton Harger (Earlham) and Brock Morris (Cascade) each won by fall.

6:29 p.m. — 1A competition picks up at 120

There was better competition during the opening round of 1A matches at 120.

Gabe Johnson of Southwest Iowa won by a 3-2 decision over Connor McLaughlin of Denver and Kuemper Catholic's Caleb Hoffman scored a 6-1 victory over Nodaway Valley's Ty Strode. Riverside's Kellen Oliver picked up a 9-5 victory over Logan-Magnolia's Gavin Kiger.

Ayden Beck (Baxter) won by major decision Sam Egan (Sumner-Fredericksburg) and  Lincoln Edwards (West Branch) both won by tech fall. Blake Irvine (Don Bosco) and Dawson Jacobsen (Central Springs) each scored a pin.

6:20 p.m. — No close matches in 1A first round at 113

There were seven pins during the first round of 1A competition at 113.

Jensen Dyer (Martensdale-St. Marys), Gavin Landers (Denver), Brayden Maeder (Southwest Valley), Preston Province (West Sioux, Hawarden), Jaxson Page (Alta/Aurelia), Tommy Booth (Pleasantville) and Kenny Colsch (Clayton Ridge) all won by fall. Aiden Feickert (South Winneshiek) earned a victory by major decision.

6:13 p.m. — 1A 106-pounders open with pins

The first round of 1A competition at the boys state wrestling tournament began with Wilton's Liam Adlfinger pinning Woodbury Central's Nathan Benedix at 106 pounds.

Kingston Carrigan (Riverside, Oakland),  Ethan Humphrey (West Branch), Aaron Schurman (West Sioux, Hawarden), Hunter Hodina (BGM, Brooklyn) also won by fall during the first round at 106. Kaiden Belinsky (Wapsie Valley) and Ethan Humphrey (West Branch) won by tech fall and Jesus Lara (Clayton Ridge) won by decision.

6 p.m. — Day 1 of boys state wrestling closes with 1A matches

The first and second rounds of Class 1A competition at the boys state wrestling tournament are finally underway!

5:02 p.m. — Updated 3A team scores

Here are the updated 3A team scores after the second round via the Register's Eli McKown.

The third and final session of the day is slated to start at 6 p.m. when Class 1A wrestlers hit the mat.

4:53 p.m. — 3A championship second round wraps up at 285

The second round of 3A championships ended Wednesday with the competition at 285.

Nick Darling (Johnston) won by utlimate tiebreaker over Jaxson Boyd (Indianola), 3-2, in the most exciting second round match at 285 in 3A. Caden Wetherell (Waverly-Shell Rock), Drew Campbell (Cedar Falls) and Dawson Rheingans (North Scott) all won by decision.

Luke Fierke (Fort Dodge), Daniel Herrera (Ames), Jamal Neeway (Waukee Northwest) and Cooper Martinson (Southeast Polk) all cruised to victory by fall.

4:47 p.m. — Good competition at 215 in 3A second round

There were some competitive matches at 215 during the 3A second round.

Xavier's Jean Ngoma won by sudden victory over Indianola's Carson Slorah (3-1). Vincenzo Lima (Iowa City, Liberty) won by an 11-8 decision over Carson Nash (Clear Creek-Amana),  Evan Franke (Muscatine) won by a 3-2 decision over Joseph Monge (Lewis Central) and  Andrew Price (Valley, West Des Moines) won by a 5-2 decision over  Mason Roethler (Johnston).

Dreshaun Ross (Fort Dodge), Griffin Schultz (Linn-Mar), Holden Hansen (Southeast Polk) and Mitchell Grider (Ankeny Centennial) all won by fall at 215.

4:40 p.m. — Five wrestlers earn a fall at 190

Five wrestlers were victorious by fall at 190 during the 3A second round.

Top seed Brent Slade (Southeast Polk) and second seed Danarri Mickel (Ames) both scored a pin, as did Kolby Gibbons (Johnston), Brayden Koester (Bettendorf) and Isaac Thacher (Fort Madison). Abe Parker (Waukee Northwest), Cain Tigges (Urbandale) and  Jackson Van Kley (Pella) won by decision.

4:31 p.m. — Valley's Nick VanArkle wins a thriller at 175

West Des Moines Valley's Nick VanArkle pulled off a 3-1 thriller by sudden victory over Iowa City West's Kyler Scranton in the second round at 175.

Other second round matches at 175 saw Maximus Magayna (Waterloo East) and Asa Hemsted (Carlisle) win by fall and Damarion Ross of Fort Dodge win by major decision. Braden Blackorby (Johnston), Dax Clatt (Indianola), Braxten Westendorf (Waverly-Shell Rock) and Jackson Winkey (Ames) all won by decision.

4:22 p.m. — 3A second round at 157 and 165 full of pins

All but two match during the 3A second round at 157 ended in a fall.

Grant Kress (Linn-Mar), Nolan Riddle (Fort Madison), Kael Voinovich (Iowa City, City High),  Isaac Bruhl (Ankeny Centennial), Jaxon Miller (Carlisle), Jack Lewis (Bondurant-Farrar) all won by fall.

Xayvion Anderson (Marshalltown) and Abe Bushong (Southeast Polk) each picked up a win by decision. Bushong pulled off a huge upset by a 5-4 decision over Valley's Cinsere Clark.

The second round matches at 165 went much the same way. Jacob Helgeson (Johnston), Colin Falck (Cedar Rapids Kennedy), Wesley Anderson (Waukee) and Lincoln Jipp (Bettendorf) all won by fall and Jordan Rial (Bondurant-Farrar) won by tech fall.

Ari Ehlts (Ankeny Centennial), Ethan Bibler (Waverly-Shell Rock) and Gabe Carver (Urbandale) won by decision.

4:12 p.m. — Past the halfway point of the 3A second round

We have passed the halfway mark of the 3A second round with the conclusion of the competition at 150.

Bas Diaz (Waverly-Shell Rock), Justin Avila (Iowa City, West) and Nolan Fellers (Bondurant-Farrar) all won by fall in the second round at 150. Lucas Bruhl (Ankeny Centennial) won by tech fall, Caden Leonard (Johnston) and Jake Pontier (Indianola) by major decision and Braylon Griffiths (Ottumwa) and  Logan Trenary (Southeast Polk) by decision.

4:05 p.m. — 3A second round at 144 wraps up

The second round of 3A competition at 144 ended with Alex Bumba (Prairie, Cedar Rapids) and Elijah Blewitt (Indianola) winning by decision and Ben Hansen (Ankeny), JahKari Clark (Valley, West Des Moines) and Mason Lucas (Carlisle) prevailing by major decision.

Kane Naaktgeboren (Linn-Mar), Joe Hirsch (Western Dubuque), Maximus Dhabolt (Ankeny Centennial) won by fall.

3:58 p.m. — The 3A 138 competition concludes with five pins

The 3A second-round competition at 138 was not nearly as competitive as it was at 132.

There were five pins in the second round at 138. Carter Freeman (Waukee Northwest), Jabari Hinson (Ames), Cody Trevino (Bettendorf), Wil Oberbroeckling (Southeast Polk)  and Koy Davidson (Fort Dodge) all won by fall.

Tyler Brennan (Ankeny Centennial), Kael Kurtz (Iowa City, City High) and Zane Behrends (Waverly-Shell Rock) all won by decision.

3:52 p.m. — A tight 3A 132 second round has wrapped up

The second round of 3A boys state wrestling competition at 132 saw quality competition with six matches ending decisions.

Kane Butrick (Fort Dodge), Ryan Rider (Carlisle), Perez Perez (Ankeny), Connor Fiser (Bondurant-Farrar) and Tyler Lee (Prairie, Cedar Rapids) all won by decision and John King (Waukee Northwest) won a 4-3 tiebreaker over Lewis Central's Carter Schorsch. Jayce Luna (Bettendorf) and defending state champoin Cael Seaton (Iowa City High) both won by technical fall.

Perez Perez won by an 8-4 decision over fourth-ranked Justis Jesuroga of Southeast Polk.

3:45 p.m. — We're finished with 3A Round 2 at 126

The second round of 3A competition at 126 ended with Truman Folkers (Ankeny), Ryker Graff (Waverly-Shell Rock), Maximus Riggins (Southeast Polk), Nate Fish (Linn-Mar) and Timothy Koester (Bettendorf)  all winning by fall.

Koufax Christensen (Waukee Northwest) won by tech fall and  Carter Siebel (Pleasant Valley) and Evan Bratten (Dubuque Hempstead) each won by decision.

The second round of 3A competition at the boys state wrestling tournament has started up.

At 106 pounds Kellen McKenna (Western Dubuque), Nico DeSalvo (Southeast Polk), Weston Porter (Lewis Central), Benjamin Walsh (Ankeny) and Braxton Hutchinson (Burlington) all won by fall.

Dylan Munson (Prairie, Cedar Rapids) won by injury default. Jack Wallukait (Dowling Catholic) was victorious by major decision and Carew Christensen (Waukee Northwest) won by decision..

3:11 p.m. — That's a wrap for Round 1 of 3A competition

A lightning-fast first round of 3A competition wrapped up with the conclusion of matches at 190, 215 and 285.

At 190 Camden Smith (Dubuque Hempstead), Camden Feuerhelm (LeMars) and Wyatt Young (Cedar Rapids Washington) all won by fall and Zander Wedemeier (Waverly-Shell Rock) by major decision. Abe Parker (Waukee Northwest), Lane Nelsen (Dallas Center-Grimes), Isaiah Kellow (Indianola) and Jace Tippet (North Scott) all won by decision.

Session I concluded with Burlington Notre Dame leading the team race. They advanced all but one wrestler through to the next round.

With the opening rounds of Class 2A action complete, Class 3A is up next. Session 2 of the Iowa high school wrestling state tournament is slated to start at 1:30 p.m.

12:30 p.m. — Here’s how the team scores stand after the second round in Class 2A

There was some shakeup in the team scores after the second round of Class 2A wrestling, and there was just one tie between teams in the top-10.

Mac Muller (Osage) 49-0 pinned Roland-Story's Aaron Peyton in 1:48 to advance to the next round. Paul Ballard (Albia) - also undefeated – pinned North Polk’s Tucker Anderson in 36 seconds for the win.

Trent Patton (Glenwood), Ethan Wood (Mount Vernon), Carter Heilskov (Hampton-Dumont-CAL), Russel Coil (Columbus), Trent Cakerice (AP-GC), and Max Chapman (Creston) all made it through the second round.

12:20 p.m. — One match in 2A at 215 pounds comes down to an ultimate tie breaker

Rhett Schaefer (Assumption) won in a 3-2 ultimate tie breaker over Jake Trenary (Clear Lake).

Braden McShane (NH/TV), Jaydn Cooper (Winterset), Henry Christensen (Ballard), Mason Koehler (Glenwood), Keegan Snyder (Perry), Karson Downey (Clarinda), and Gavin Bridgewater (South Tama County) all moved on to the next round.

The second round of action at 190 pounds is complete.

Jarrett Roos (Sheldon/South O’Brien) remains undefeated after pinning Clarinda’s Bryson Harris.

Troy Kupka (Benton Community), Parker Moritz (Garner-Hayfield/Ventura), Kain Killmer (Perry), Zach Adelmund (Dike-New Hartford), Ben Bryant (North Polk), Thomas Sexton (Decorah), and Brody Sampson (Ballard) all advanced.

12:10 p.m. — Two undefeated wrestlers advance at 175 pounds

Austin Scranton (Anamosa) pinned Logan Allender (Cherokee), and Daniel Gorskikh (Knoxville) pinned Cohan Torres (North Polk). Both remain undefeated after the second round of the state tournament.

Clarinda’s Dominick Polsley wasted little time advancing, pinning Leander Reicks in just 15 seconds for the win.

Rylan DeGroot (Western Christian), Kenny Kerr (North Fayette Valley), Brent Yonkovic (West Delaware), Brock Voyna (Crestwood) and Hesston Johnson (Roland-Story) will all wrestle on Thursday.

12:00 p.m. — Second round at 165 pounds in Class 2A is complete

Wahlert’s Colin Young remained undefeated with a tech fall win over Creston’s William Bolinger.

Tucker Stangel (Osage) 51-0 won by fall over Blake Mather (West Delaware).

Gavin Scheuermann (Greene County) won by 15-2 major decision over Brody Hanson (Decorah).

Blake Wilson (Burlington Notre Dame), Taevyn Zinnel (Algona), Sir Brandon Watts (Bishop Heelan), Karson Kolbet (NH/TV), Taylor Mahler (Hampton-Dumont-CAL), and Bo Koedam (Sergeant Bluff-Luton) all continue onto the next round.

North Polk sits alone at the top of the scoreboard with 18 points.

Creston, Mount Vernon, and Sioux Center are tied for second with 14.

Carroll has 13 points, Assumption has 11.5, Decorah as 11, and Hampton-Dumont-CAL has 10.5.

There is a five-way tie for ninth place with 10 points: Albia, Burlington Notre Dame, Humboldt, PCM, and Williamsburg.

10:45 a.m. — Class 2A first round is complete after eight advance in 285 weight class

Aaron Peyton (Roland-Story) kicked off the final weight class with a sudden victory over Mason Nally (Clarinda).

It took extra time to decide the first-round matchup between Brady Patterson (Benton Community) and Layton Yager (Estherville Lincoln Central). It was ultimately Patterson who came out on top.
