Live Oak girls remain as top-seed; Boys No. 3 in NSCIF playoff chase

Feb. 8—With one game left in the regular season, the Live Oak girls soccer team remained as the top seed in the Northern Section Division II playoff points race ahead of Saturday's seed meeting.

The Lions, at 18-1-1 overall and 9-0 in Sac Valley League, looked to clinch the SVL title with a win at Winters late Thursday night in an outcome unavailable by the Appeal deadline. Official results will be made available on Saturday.

Live Oak has been perfect through league up till Thursday, capped by Tuesday's 11-goal performance against Pierce of Colusa County. Mckayla Holmen scored a game-high six goals, while Johanna Petrone netted three goals for Live Oak. Maya Goodson scored twice for four total points.

Trailing Live Oak in the playoff race is University Prep at No. 2, followed by West Valley and Orland at 3 and 4, respectively. Official brackets in all NSCIF divisions will be revealed on Saturday following the meeting.

In Division III, Colusa girls, at 7-9-4, lead the area at 3, followed by Williams at 4 and Willows, out of Glenn County, at 5. The RedHawks appear firmly planted as the third-place finisher in the SVL as of Thursday afternoon.

Colusa ended the regular season with a forfeit over Los Molinos.

Boys soccer

Live Oak finished the SVL portion of its season unbeaten and sits at No. 3, right below Gridley, in this week's NSCIF Division II playoff points. The top seed ahead of the seed meeting is unbeaten University Prep out of Redding.

Corning, Yreka and Orland are four through six in the D-II playoff chase.

15-0 Williams out of Colusa County leads D-III, while Maxwell sits at 3 and Colusa at 4 leading up to the official release of the playoff brackets.

Yuba College 113, Alameda 70

Yuba College men's basketball dropped in a season-high 113 points Wednesday night in its rout of Alameda.

Seven players scored in double figures, led by Demarreya Lewis-Cooper's 14 points and 13 apiece by Cab Odom and Rohan Sheemar. Devan Minouei, Devon Malcolm and Caden Flowers each added 12 as Yuba improved to 21-2 overall and 11-0 in the Bay Valley Conference.

The Yuba women fell to 1-22 overall, winless in conference, with a 101-31 loss at home to Laney.
