Lisbon, Harrisville gear for duel; MCS denies H-D

Dec. 15—Lisbon and Harrisville are two NAC West Division Boys Basketball team who have shown a dedication to defense as a key quality in an unbeaten start to the season. Both the Golden Knights and the Pirates showed the ability to control a road game with their defense on Thursday preparing for a meeting in Lisbon on Monday.

Lisbon checked Edwards-Knox 71-27 and Harrisville stymied Heuvelton 69-35.

Morristown also stayed unbeaten in the first two weeks of the season holding off Hermon-DeKalb 53-51.

In one NAC East game Brushton-Moira outscored Colton-Pierrepont 62-45.

Ina Central Game played Wednesday Gouverneur defeated Salmon River 83-41.

Harrisville 69 — H-D 35: The visiting Pirates opened a 18-11 first quarter lead followed by a decisive 27-9 sprint to the half where Tanner Sullivan buried a pair of 3-pointers scoring 15 of his game-high 22 points.

"This is the first group that I have had in a while that I challenged to come into the season ready to press man to man fullcourt. We still have some tweaking to do but these guys have really done a great job," said Harrisville Coach Brian Coloney.

"We have speed and we have length.

Nolan Sullivan tallied 17 points, Liam Winters buried three 3s scoring nine points, Joe Sheppard and Brendan Loos each tallied eight and Aiden Chartrand added five for the Pirates who will play in the Sackets Harbor Tournament this weekend.

"Their D is pretty relentless. Our senior guards who are starting for the first year had some trouble and we had to scramble our game plan when one starter turned an ankle in practice and another woke up sick this morning and was out," said Heuvelton Coach Josh McAllister.

"They are a very good team and we have a lot of things that we have to work on. But I thought our young players did a pretty good job."

Rhys Brossoit tallied 11 points for the Bulldogs and Landyn Ashlaw and Isreal Paradise netted seven and six. Cam Johnson contributed five and Arick Roane and Colt McAllister added three and two.

The Heuvelton JVs recorded a 52-24 win where Drew Carpenter scored 11 of his 18 points in the first quarter and Parker Felt tallied 14.

Lisbon 71 — E-K 27: Lisbon followed the same scrift at E-K bolting away from an 11-6 first quarter lead with a 27-10 second quarter run where Cooper Rutherford scored 13 of his game-high 32 points and Connor Bell scored six of his 12 points. Morristown 53 — H-D 51: The Green Demons came from behind to pull into a 35-35 tie after three quarters and carried a five-point lead into the final minutes where they held off an H-D rally.

"We were down five but we came back and almost got the win," said H-D Coach Jake Fenlong.

Michael Mauer struck for three 3s scoring 13 points and Noah Locy scored a game-high 16 points. Hunter Bouchey came through with a 10-point effort.

"My bench really stepped up defensively. We lost Walker Belisle early in the first quarter with Ashma issues so I had to lean on them heavy tonight," said Morristown Coach Jake VanArnam.

"We have a packed week next week with Heuvelton on Tuesday, Alex Bay on Thursday and Copenhagen on Friday."

B-M 62 — C-P 45: Dustin Baker 18 and Saige Sauve combined for 18 and 17 points to lead the Panthers who prevailed with a 23-8 second quarter run.
