Lisbon, Harrisville gain momentum in tournament titles

Dec. 10—Building waves of momentum for a key early season meeting on Tuesday Lisbon and Harrisville won their own memorial tournaments on Saturday night.

Lisbon took honors in the James Darcy Memorial Tournament with a 67-47 win over Morristown and Harrisville controlled Old Forge 72-34 in the championship game of the Charlie Folsom Memorial Tournament.

Lisbon will visit Harrisville on Monday night.

LCS PREVAILS

Lisbon Coach Bob Jordan considered the tournament championship as a major step forward in the wholesale development of the Knights as they accented their offense with an aggressive defense and crisp bounce passes to the post.

Junior forward Cooper Rutherford led the way in all elements as he scored a game-high 28 points with two first-half 3s, was an athletic force on both backboards, finished and facilitated on the fast break and consistently found his teammates in the low blocks.

"This what we have been working for and it is Cooper Ruthford's job to make his teammates better. His court vision is very important and he has that from playing point guard when he was younger," said Lisbon Coach Bob Jordan.

"As a team we played good defense and moved the ball very well."

Joining Rutherford on the All-Tournament Team was forward Connor Bell who tallied 13 points off tough inside conversions secured with movement without the ball along the baseline and Morristown center Terin Rosebarker who scored 13 points leading an active Green Rockets front line which interchanged and shared the ball very well.

AJ Donaldson buried two 3's scoring eight of his14 points in the first quarter where Lisbon took a 14-10 lead and Rutherford scored 11 in the second quarter leading a 22-10 run. The Knights pilfered the low blocks in a 17-10 third quarter pull-away where Bell scored eight points and Coby Mills came off the bench to score six.

Rounding out the All-Tournament Team was Noah Locy of Hermon-DeKalb which downed Norwood-Norfolk 53-21 in the consolation game and Matt Richards of N-N.

Lisbon guard Connor Flack (4 points) provided high energy on both sides of the ball received the Sportsmanship Award.

Guard Walker Belisle lifted the Morristown offense scoring seven of his nine points in the second half with drives to the goal and Kam Toland worked the inside for eight points and Joe Wrobel and Dominic Perretta followed with seven and six points

Consolation Game

Hermon-DeKalb got off to a slow start offensively in the consolation scoring just six points but the Demons held N-N scoreless and reeled off a 40-13 over the second and third quarters which keyed 53-21 win.

Hunter Bouchey and Noah Locy combined for 13 and 14 points for H-D and Emerson McQuade netted nine. Caleb McCray, Arthur Anson and Nolan Carr added six, four and two points.

Matt Richards and Howard Malone tallied nine and eight points to lead N-N with Tarron Colbert and Owen Point adding four and two.

Lisbon JVs Win

Lisbon also won the JV Championship recording a 36-27 win over Morristown. Tournament MVP Ian Quinlan scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. Damon Wilkinson tallied nine points and All-Tournament selection TJ O'Brien netted five points for Coach Tom Howe. Rounding out the All-Tournament Team was Gage Jimenez of Morristown and Wyatt Bogart of H-D which won the consolation game.

Landon Simser of H-D received the Sportsmanship Award.

Garrett Flack ad Gavin Richardson tallied four points for Lisbon and Landon Morrow led Morristown with 12 points. Caleb Butler tallied five points for MCS, Coltyn Brothers and Marshall Wright each added four and Gaige Jimenez chipped in two.

First round

LISBON — The host Golden Knights and Morristown earned the right to play in Saturday's championship game of the 24th annual Jim Darcy Memorial Boys Basketball Tournament with break-away wins on Friday night.

Lisbon downed Hermon-DeKalb 56-29 and Morristown dropped Norwood-Norfolk 67-24.

Lisbon 56 — H-D 29: The Knights used a swarming and over-playing defense to trigger a 23-5 second quarter pull-away. Cooper Rutherford and A.J. Donaldson combined for 18 and 12 points to lead the way and Connor Flack and Connor Bell each tallied seven. Both players also grabbed key rebounds throughout the game.

Other scoring came from: Isaiah White (6), Tanner Fonda (3) and Hayden Vesel (1). Nolan Locy tallied 16 points leading H-D followed by Emerson McQuade (6), Michael Mauer (5) and Jeremy Carr (2).

Morristown 67 — N-N 24: Terin Rosenbarker went 5-6 at the free throw line scoring a game-high 21 points for Morristown which also received 11 points from Joe Wrobel, nine from Dominic Perretta on three 3s and Peyton Donnelly with seven. Other scoring came from Walker and Sawyer Belisle with four points apiece and Austin Brooks with two. Matt Richards led N-N with 12 points and Howard Malone with five.

PIRATES ROLL

Tournament MVP Tanner Sullivan buried four 3's in a 25-point effort and host Harrisville scored 35 points in the first quarter and rolled to the championship of the Charlie Folsom Memorial Tournament on Saturday with a 72-34 win over Old Forge.

Aiden Chartrand scored seven of his 11 points in the first quarter and earned All-Tournament selection and Liam Winters buried four 3s in an another 11-point effort.

Nolan Sullivan tallied 10 points and Joe Sheppard ad Connor Martin added four and two points. Prestin Morris led Old Forge with nine points.

Colton-Pierrepont downed Edwards-Knox in the consolation game, Old Forge won the JV title over Harrisville and C-P bested E-K in the JV consolation game.

First Round

Harrisville 93 — E-K 41: The Pirates dominated the game with their pressure defense and bolted out to a 32-8 first quarter lead. Aiden Chartrand and Tanner Sullivan each hit three 3-pointers scoring 23 and 21 points and Nolan Sullivan scored 14. Joe Sheppard and Brandon Loos scored 11 and six points in the wi and the Cougars were led by Kale Greer with 19 points and nine from Cooper Allen.

NAC GAMES

Canton 49 — Malone 45: Ryan Jones, Talon Green and Zadok Roiger combined for 20, 14 and 10 points as Canton used a 16-11 third quarter advantage as the key to victory. Ian Mulverhill and Brent Poupore led Malone with nine and eight points.

Chateaugay 46 — B-M 42: Jake Johnston's 27 points, eight rebounds and eight steals carried the Bulldogs to victory and a physical defensive duel. Pete Reynolds grabbef 11 rebounds and five steals and Grant Locklin also snatched five steals.

"This was a good old fashion battle between Brushton and Chateaugay. Both teams played really hard and left it all out there tonight. I am really proud of this team tonight. They worked their tails off defensively and made big plays. Jake had a great game on both ends of the court tonight. Peter did every little thing it takes to win games like this. Grants defense on the balls was game changing tonight," said Chateaugay Coach Jason LaPlante.
