Lions 2023 draft pick watch: The Rams keep losing

Tracking the Lions current slots for the 2023 NFL draft requires some separation of priorities. With the Lions surging to four wins in five games, Detroit is (rightly) focused more on the postseason potential for Dan Campbell’s team. At 5-7, the Lions are two games out of the final wild card spot in the NFC and playing well enough to make the playoffs a realistic possibility.

However, the draft focus remains strong with the pick acquired from the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams lost again, their sixth defeat in a row. With no Matthew Stafford, Aaron Donald or Cooper Kupp, L.A. put up a fight against Seattle but lost on a late touchdown.

As a result, the 3-9 Rams are in firm possession of a top-5 overall pick, one which conveys to Detroit as part of the Stafford trade in 2021. Because the Chicago Bears lost, the Rams’ pick actually slides back to No. 4 overall. Last week it was third.

Detroit’s own pick is No. 15 after the Lions bumped up to 5-7. In the second round, the Lions’ pick now sits at No. 46 overall. The acquired pick from the Minnesota Vikings remains at No. 62 overall following the Vikings win over the New York Jets.
