Linus Lundqvist crashes on Lap 28 on the Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS — Linus Lundqvist’s first Indianapolis 500 ended after only 27 laps. The Swede was four wide on the outside when the No. 8 Chip Ganassi Racing car lost control at the entrance of the corner.

Lundqvist said he wasn't entirely sure what caused him to lose control, but expressed immense disappointment for his Chip Ganassi Racing crew. Lundqvist tried to save the car but hit the outside wall of Turn 1. The 2022 Indy NXT champion spun after the wall contact, hitting the wall inside of Turn 2.

"I think I made contact with one of the cars going into (Turn) 1, and it kind of put the car into a pendulum and I just couldn't hold on," Lundqvist said.

Lundqvist exited the car under his own power and said he was OK after exiting the Emergency Medical Center.

This was Lundqvist's second crash on the IMS oval track this month, as he crashed during a practice session May 16.

"We've had a pretty rough month of May," he said. "Our goal was to get through the 200 laps ... it's a valuable experience for me as a rookie, but right now I'm just gutted.''
