LHSAA high school football playoffs second round schedule for Acadiana teams
Last week, the Acadiana area saw seven teams bounced from the opening round of the LHSAA high school football playoffs.
Rayne, Eunice, Kaplan, Church Point, Port Barre, Northside and St. Edmund each had their respective seasons come to an end.
Arrival of the second round means a full complement of area squads will be in action after eight had first-round byes last week. There are a few matchups that are intriguing and the headliner for the second round in the Lafayette area is No. 9 Carencro (9-2) faces District 3-5A rival Acadiana (8-2) at Bill Dotson Stadium.
The game marks the second straight season to the district juggernauts will meet in the second round — Carencro eliminated Acadiana in 2022.
Other games worth watching for include No. 16 Westgate (7-4) traveling to play Non-select Division I top seed Ruston (10-0).
In Non-select D-II, No. 2 Cecilia (9-1) will host No. 15 Iota (8-3) while No. 22 Northwest (8-3) will host No. 6 Wossman (8-2) for a shot at the quarterfinals.
No. 7 Teurlings Catholic (7-3), off a first-round bye in the Select D-II bracket, will host No. 10 Madison Prep (8-3), No. 5 Catholic-New Iberia (8-2) will play a home playoff game against No. 21 Lake Charles College Prep (4-7) in Select D-III and in D-IV Select bracket No. 8 Opelousas Catholic (7-3) hosts No. 9 Ascension Catholic (9-2), who it lost to in Week 2, 39-28.
