Jeremy Reaves signs two-year contract with Washington Commanders entering 2024 season

Jeremy Reaves is staying in Washington.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday afternoon that the NFL's Washington Commanders and Jeremy Reaves, a Pensacola native and Pensacola Catholic alum, have agreed to terms on a two-year contract. Details of the contract were not announced, though Reaves is the first in-house free agent that Washington is bringing back for the 2024-25 season.

Reaves posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, also on Wednesday afternoon shortly after the announcement was made by Fowler.

"Let's run it back," Reaves posted with a video if himself during a previous Commanders game.

"Commanders fans! I'm glad to be coming back HOME! I got unfinished business!" Reaves posted minutes later.

Reaves missed a majority of the 2023-24 season due to a partially torn ACL injury that he suffered in October. He was placed on the injury reserve list for Washington on Oct. 10. A few weeks later, it was reported he underwent a "successful knee surgery."

"One thing I've learned throughout my journey is that the mountain has two sides to it. Reaching the top of one just means there's another climb to a higher peak," Reaves said on social media right before the surgery. "I hope you all know the few Sundays I had this year and the many before that, I gave you my all every time I stepped on the field."

After initially signing with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2018, just to be waived months later, Reaves signed with the Commanders' – then known as the Redskins – practice squad on Sept. 12, 2018.

He made his NFL debut on Dec. 22 of that year, and has been with the Commanders ever since, rolling with the team's name transitions from the Redskins, to the Washington Football Team, and now the Commanders. His breakout year came when he was placed on the 53-man roster in 2022, the first time in his career he had done so. He was a final cut the previous four seasons, being placed on the practice squad and eventually signing to the team's active roster later in the year.

Reaves was a special teams starter in the 2023 Pro Bowl, which was announced with an emotional video between Reaves and then-head coach Ron Rivera. Reaves was also named first-team all-pro.

Reaves graduated from Pensacola Catholic in 2014, originally playing running back. He was moved to defensive back his sophomore year, and was a PNJ Super Senior in 2013. Reaves was a two-time PNJ all area pick and led Pensacola Catholic to a regional final appearance in his senior year.

Reaves went on to play at the University of South Alabama, where he was named the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, before going undrafted in 2018.
