Legendary FSU linebacker Marvin Jones set to be inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

At long last, legendary Florida State linebacker Marvin Jones is going to be inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame.

The National Football Foundation announced Monday that Jones is set to be one of 21 people (18 players, three coaches) inducted as part of the 2022 College Football Hall of Fame Class.

"Appreciate all the love over the last few days. Sorry for not responding, had to keep it hush on my end!" Jones said in a Twitter post after reports first broke he would be named to the CFB Hall of Fame last week.

"Thanks to Coach Bobby (Bowden), Wally Burnham, Mickey Andrews, Doug Mannheimer & teammates...

"Wish this was a day coach Bowden could see! #Dadgummit #Miss You! Defining a good man!! He Has Integrity. A Godly man is one that puts an emphasis on his own integrity."

Jones is widely considered to be one of the best linebackers in o football history. He manned the middle of the FSU defense from 1990 through 1992 and was named a consensus All-American in 1991 and a unanimous All-American in 1992.

Over his three seasons at FSU, Jones, who was known by the nickname "Shade Tree", racked up 369 tackles (218 solo) with 27 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions and a forced fumble.

In his third and final season with the Seminoles, Jones had 111 tackles and six tackles for loss, finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting and won the Butkus Award (best linebacker) and the Lombardi Award (best lineman or linebacker).

Jones was drafted fourth overall in the 1993 NFL Draft and played his entire 11-year professional career with the New York Jets. He was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2000 and had his jersey retired by FSU in 2015.

Jones is set to be the ninth former Seminole to be inducted into the College Football HoF, joining Ron Sellers (1988), Fred Biletnikoff (1991), Charlie Ward (2006), Bobby Bowden (2006), Ron Simmons (2008), Deion Sanders (2011), Derrick Brooks (2016) and Terrell Buckley (2018).

Jones will be officially inducted during the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner later this year on Dec. 6.
