Legend Charles Barkley criticizes NBA over Kyrie Irving situation

The Brooklyn Nets star guard Kyrie Irving has been serving a suspension after tweeting support for an antisemitic film, basketball legend, and sports personality Charles Barkley had some thoughts on the NBA’s handling of the situation.

On a Tuesday morning CNN segment, Barkey claimed that the league “dropped the ball” on the situation. The former NBA MVP said:

People have the right to feel and say what they want to, we have freedom of speech, but there are repercussions when you say certain things.

Barkley continued:

This thing with free speech has really gotten out of hand. You can’t go around insulting people and think it’s OK just because it’s freedom of speech.

The Nets guard has been serving what was originally a five-game suspension but has now extended to six. However, the NBPA has come to the consensus that Irving has been punished fairly and is considering filing a grievance for him.

Former teammate and megastar LeBron James showed support for the guard, believing that the Brooklyn Nets mandates are excessive.
