Lee Dort of Vanderbilt basketball to enter transfer portal after Stackhouse departure | Report

Vanderbilt basketball center Lee Dort will enter the transfer portal, according to a report Friday from Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68.

Dort was a four-star recruit in former Commodores coach Jerry Stackhouse's heralded 2022 class. But the 6-foot-10 big played in only 18 games in two years. In 2022-23, he missed large chunks of the season due to injury. When he was on the court, he averaged 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

In 2023-24, he missed the first two weeks of the season with an injury, then played in just one game — in which he played seven minutes and scored one point — before being arrested in late November and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation. After his arrest, Dort was suspended indefinitely from the basketball program, a suspension that ultimately lasted the entire season.

In January, Dort agreed to a pre-trial diversion that has him on track to have his criminal charges dismissed, but he remained suspended from the program.

The departure of Stackhouse, with whom Vanderbilt "mutually agreed to part ways" Thursday, allows Vanderbilt players to enter the transfer portal immediately despite the official window not yet opening. Players who enter the portal are still eligible to return to the Commodores under the new coach.
