LeBron James throws shade at Marc Gasol over 2013 Defensive Player of the Year Award

Marc Gasol's Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2013 may be one of the most memorable this century. A major reason why is because of the guy who finished second.

Gasol beat out LeBron James for the award, but the current Los Angeles Lakers forward revealed that the result still stings.

James pointed out how Gasol won Defensive Player of the Year, but finished on the second-team all-defensive team. He compared not having the award to how artist Beyoncé has a lot of Grammy awards but hasn't won album of the year.

"That's the only award I don't have in my house that kind of stings," James said on an upcoming episode of The Shop. "It don't make sense."

Gasol, then a center with the Memphis Grizzlies, received 30 first-place votes to win the award. James finished with 18. Joakim Noah was the center who made the first team. He garnered 13 first-place votes

The Grizzlies had the No. 2 rated defense in the NBA that season, and Gasol was a major reason why. He led the NBA in defensive box plus-minus and finished second behind Paul George in defensive win shares.

James is a 19-time NBA all-star, the league's all-time leading scorer and he has won four MVPS and NBA titles. The 2013 season was as close as James came to winning the defensive award, but voters preferred Gasol.
