LCU sweeps LSC games at UT Tyler

TYLER — Ashton Duncan, coming off a scoreless performance in a loss two nights before, got back on track with 20 points Saturday afternoon, leading No. 2 Lubbock Christian University to a 57-37 victory against UT Tyler in Lone Star Conference women's basketball.

Channing Cunyus added 13 points and Juliana Robertson nine points and a career-high 18 rebounds as the Lady Chaps (14-3, 3-2) bounced back from a 66-62 defeat Thursday at No. 6 Texas A&M-Commerce. In that game, Duncan went 0 for 6 from the field in 31 minutes.

Lovisa Hevinder scored 12 points for UT Tyler (9-4, 2-2), and Liah Davis had 11.

TYLER — Rowan Mackenzie scored 18 points and top-ranked Lubbock Christian University rallied from seven points down to beat UT Tyler, matching the program's best start to a season.

LCU (16-0, 4-0 in the Lone Star Conference) also started 16-0 last year, when the Chaparrals made the South Central Regional finals of the Division II NCAA Tournament.

Parker Hicks scored 15 points and Aamer Muhammad 14 as LCU overcame deficits of 38-32 at halftime and 43-36 with less than 15 minutes left. From that point on, Mackenzie scored 11 points and Muhammad 10.

UT Tyler (10-3, 2-2) got 23 points from Micah Fuller. Soloman Thomas added 11 and Eysan Wiley 10.

WAXAHACHIE — Jenna Cooper poured in a career-high 37 points, leading No. 9 Wayland Baptist to a Sooner Athletic Conference victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God.

In their final game of the first half of the SAC schedule, the league-leading Flying Queens (18-2, 10-1) had little trouble against the Lady Lions (6-12, 3-9), leading 28-11 after the first period when Cooper scored 15 points.

Kaitlyn and Kaylee Edgemon scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, and both ended with eight rebounds.

WAXAHACHIE — Wayland Baptist let a 10-point lead slip away as No. 12 Southwestern Assemblies of God hit four consecutive 3-point goals and WBU missed one at the buzzer, allowing the Lions to squeak out a win in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

Wayland (8-10, 4-7) led most of the game, including its largest lead at 63-53 following a 12-2 run with 4½ minutes left. But the Lions (13-3, 10-1) ended the game with a 14-2 burst, getting three 3s from Isaiah Boling and another from Nathan Bailey.

Boling finished with 23 points.

Parrish Hewitt and R.J. Mason led Wayland with 22 and 17, respectively.
