Lancaster Stormers pen three more to 2024 roster

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – The Lancaster Stormers announced the addition of three new players to the 2024 roster on Friday.

The inking of outfielder Niko Hulsizer, lefty reliever Max Green and right-handed reliever Ted Stuka bring the Stormers’ signings to 21 for the campaign.

Hulsizer, a Berks County native, signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers from Morehead State (KY) in 2018 where he stayed for 1.5 seasons. The 27-year-old left to join the Tampa Bay Rays in the middle of 2019, where he played in 13 MLB games.

In the last four seasons, Hulsizer has posted 78 homers and 87 doubles in the minors, batting in 268 runs. The Mohnton, Pennsylvania native played in foreign winter leagues where he had 17 hits across 88 games.

Last season Hulsizer was with Class AAA Durham where he hit .212 with 17 home runs and 63 RBI.

“Hulsizer has solid numbers over the last few seasons,” said Stormers manager Ross Peeples. “He should add pop to the middle of our lineup. I think he is going to be a big pickup for us.”

Green was originally drafted by Detroit from Pepperdine University in 2017. With Class A+ Lakeland in 2019 Green went 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA in 36 relief appearances. The California native played in 60.1 innings that year.

The 27-year-old played in 16 games in 2021 with Class AA Erie where he was coached by Lancaster’s current pitching coach Mark Johnson. In 2022 Green sat out with an injury but was able to come back for 14 appearances, three of which were last season.

“Mark (Johnson) has great things to say about Green,” Peeples said. “He has a very live arm from the left side and will be a valuable asset to our bullpen.”

Stuka was also drafted by the Detroit Tigers from the University of San Diego. The 26-year-old played in 80 games over the last four seasons, reaching Class A+ West Michigan in 2022. Stuka has an 8-13 record with a 6.75 ERA for his professional career.

“Stuka is a guy who has been fighting his delivery and has really been working on it for the last year and a half,” Peeples said. “He has a mid-90’s live arm, and we are excited to give him an opportunity.”

The Stormers will begin their quest for a three-peat Atlantic League tittle on April 25 at Long Island. Lancaster’s home opener will be on April 30 against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars.
