LaMoure (N.D.) wins championship in Ashley Charron Memorial Wood Bat Tourney at Webster

SIOUX FALLS — Watertown Post 17 and the Aberdeen Smittys each closed out play in the Dakota Classic American Legion Baseball Tournament on Sunday.

Post 17 (20-19 overall) finished out a 2-2 weekend with an 8-1 win over Kindred (N.D.). The Smittys (15-9) also finished out a 2-2 weekend with an 8-4 loss to Bennington, Neb.

Jackson Maag and Will Engstrom combined on a two-hitter to spark Watertown. Maag allowed only hit in four innings and Engstrom one hit over the final three innings.

Carter Beynon went 3-for-3 with a double to lead Post 17, which also got two hits each from Drew Denzer and Jack Heesch. Heesch hit a double and Denzer, who homered, joined Austin Johnson with two RBIs.

Watertown plays Wednesday through Sunday in the Creighton Prep Tourney at Omaha, Neb.

A four-run first inning led Bennington past Aberdeen.

Phillip Zens had two hits, Casey Vining tripled and Zane Backous homered for the Smittys, who visit Sioux Falls East on Wednesday.

Ashley Charron Memorial Wood Bat Tourney

WEBSTER — LaMoure (N.D.) improved to 11-1 with a 3-0 victory over Redfield in the championship game of the tourney.

Corban Potts tossed a four-hitter and also added two hits on offense for LaMoure. Garrett Hebl contributed a double.

Camden Osborn doubled and Owen Osborn, Peyton Osborn and Nolan Gall each singled for Redfield (10-3).

Redfield reached the championship by opening the day with a 7-5 victory over Big Stone City (3-4). Gall had two doubles and a single, Peyton Osborn two doubles and two RBIs and Camden Osborn a triple. Josh Mueller and Dru Boots collected two hits each for BSC.

In the other game, host Webster rallied to a 7-6 nine-inning win over the Jamestown (N.D.) Blues. Samuel Nelson's run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh tied the game for Webster, which scored the winning run in the bottom on the ninth on a wild pitch. Matthew Mount had two hits for Webster and Kaiden Hakanson three hits for Jamestown.

Redfield hosts Webster on Wednesday.

Milbank 13, Groton 11

MILBANK — A six-run seventh inning snapped a 5-5 tie and guided Milbank to the nine-inning win on Sunday.

Josh Pederson drove in four runs with a single, double and a triple and Joe Schulte four runs with two singles for Milbank (4-7). Jace Jonasen contributed three hits and Mason Miester a double.

Gavin Englund and Caden McInerney had two hits apiece for Groton (8-6).

Madison 2, Volga 0

VOLGA — Lucas Mork fired a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Jovi Wolf smacked three hits to spark Madison to the win on Saturday.

Jace Christensen tripled and Jack Opitz, Caleb Murphy and Dawson Doyscher each singled for Volga (3-2). Garrett Bothe fanned eight batters in the loss.

Amateur Baseball

Clark Traders 13, Volga Cormorants 3

CLARK — Jess Karber drove in four runs with a double and a homer to propel the Traders (6-2, 5-2) to the Eastern Dakota League win on Sunday.

Wesley Jones plated three runs with three hits and Rhett Florey two with a double and two singles. Brent Griffith also had two hits for Clark.

Noah Puetz and Bayley Colemer each notched two hits for Volga.

Clark visits Lake Norden on Wednesday.

Northville 5, Groton Locke Electric 4

GROTON — Jeremiah Maxfield, Kade Stahl and Fatafehi Faonelua each had two hits to lead Northville to the 10-inning win.

Austin Jones had three hits and Alex Morris, Dalton Locke and Brian Hansen two each for Groton (1-1).

Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar takes fifth in tourney

VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar (5-2) completed play in the Rally in the Valley tournament with a 4-0 win over Mayville in the fifth-place game on Sunday.

Lucas Heiser went five innings for the win and Jacob Beuster pitched the final two. Spencer Sudbeck and Jesse Babcock each had two hits for Aberdeen.

On Saturday, Aberdeen fell 6-4 to the Mets and 3-2 to Cando (N.D.).

Brandon Kusler and Beuster had two hits apiece and Chris Wolfe went the distance in the loss to the Mets. Chad and Ryan Ellingson joined Kusler with a double.

Kelly Coates and Michael Babcock produced three hits, Chad Ellingson two and Jacob Beuster a double in the loss to Cando. Ellingson fanned eight batters in the loss.
