LaMelo Ball stuffed the stat sheet in Hornets’ loss to Sixers
Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego praised LaMelo Ball this week for the growth he has shown each game to start his rookie season. On Saturday, Ball may have turned in his best overall performance.
Ball recorded 13 points, five assists, four rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots in 30 minutes off the bench in the 127-112 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. He shot 4-of-12 from the field, including 1-of-4 from 3-point range.
Despite the loss, Ball impacted all areas of the game on Saturday and it reflected in the box score. The 19-year-old became the youngest player in NBA history to reach at least 13 points, five assists, four rebounds, four steals and two blocks in game, according to Stathead.
Ball helped close the game out for the Hornets, the first time he has done so this season. He typically exits the games midway through the fourth quarter but the team left him in with the Hornets still somewhat within striking distance.
The third overall pick offered a glimpse of his potential with the Hornets on Saturday. His ability on the court, plus his awareness and court vision, has Ball among the most entertaining rookies to watch this year and he should only improve the more he plays.
