Four years ago, Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a brothel in Nevada. He had overdosed and suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks, and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

This week, the 39-year-old Odom is not just alive, but also attempting to rebuild his life, taking part in the BIG3 League this upcoming season as a co-captain for Enemies.

Odom’s fall from grace has been well-chronicled the past few years. But he recently opened up to the Los Angeles Times about his recovery process, noting his memory loss.

“If there’s a poster child for Alzheimer’s, I’m probably it,” he said. “It’s something I’m scared of.”

Odom said that doctors called him a “walking miracle.”

“When I woke up and I couldn’t talk or walk I never thought I would be here,” Odom said to the Times’ Arash Markazi. “I never thought I would play basketball again or talk to you. Just to be here is a win for me.”

On Thursday, TMZ talked to Odom at LAX, where the former NBA player said adamantly, "Getting high is not on my agenda."

But he noted the long road to leaving his drug addiction in the past.

“You don't just put that behind you,” he said.

The fact that Odom is back to playing basketball and opening up about his struggles is a good thing. Back in his NBA days, Odom was the Draymond Green of his time, a lanky forward with handles and versatility on both ends of the floor.

He may not have the same athleticism at age 39 and a turbulent life since he last played in the pros in 2013. But the fact that he’s back playing professional basketball at all is a tremendously positive accomplishment.
