Lake View’s Derrick Taylor among multiple area athletes to qualify for UIL state meet
Multiple San Angelo area athletes competed in Class 6A through Class A regional track meets for the opportunity to participate in the state track meet in early May.
Class 4A
Lake View’s Derrick Taylor, who was one-tenth of a second shy of making the state track meet in the 200-meter dash in Class 4A in 2022, qualified for the “wild card” slot in the Class 4A meet in the 200 with a time of 21.89 seconds.
Class 3A
Wall’s Ryan Allen qualified for the Class 3A state meet in the boys high jump with a jump of 6-feet, 4-inches.
Wall's Kamryn Williams qualified for the girls state meet in the shot put with a throw of 39-11.75.
Wall's Abbie Boehle set a personal record and qualified for the girls state in the long jump with a jump of 17-11.25.
Wall's Lexi Slaughter qualified for the state meet for the "wild card" spot in the 400 with a personal record time of 58.41
Class 2A
Region 1-2A Boys
Coleman's Braxton Smith took home first place in the long jump with a jump of 23-00.25.
River Kinsley of Sterling City qualified for the long jump with a second-place jump of 22-11.75.
Big Lake Regan County's Kason Brown qualified for state with a second-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 44-01.75.
Clayton Lackey of Coleman placed second in the discus throw qualifying for state with a toss of 176-08.
Sterling City's Johnny Monreal took home first place qualifying for state in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.33
Nicolai Nelson of Christoval placed second in the 300 hurdles and qualified for state with a time of 40.34.
Sonora's 1,600 relay team of Robert Rodriguez, Jamie Buitron, Kasey Lux and Hunter Obannon took home first place and qualified for state with a time of 3:26.06.
Region 1-2A Girls
Forsan's Allena Nelson placed second in the shot put qualifying for state with a toss of 38-00.
Logan Prater of Eldorado took home first place in the long jump with a jump of 18-10.50
Sterling City's Molly McPherson placed second in the long jump qualifying for state with a jump of 18-00.25
Logan Prater of Eldorado took home first in the triple jump with a jump of 38-09.25.
Ozona's 400 relay team of Jaylynn Tijernia, Brylee Gutierrez, Faith Quiroz and Natalie Rodriguez placed second qualifying for state with a time of 50.50.
Jessica Garcia of Eldorado placed second qualifying for state with a time of 2:24.46.
Logan Prater or Eldorado took home first in the 100 hurdles and qualified for state with a time of 15.26.
Sterling City's Molly McPherson placed second in the 400 qualifying for state with a time of 1:00.07.
Class A
Region II-A Boys
Irion County’s Bo Morrow finished in second in the 200 with a time of 22.95.
Jett Jackson from Bronte placed first in the 800 with a time of 2:03.62.
Irion County’s Tayte Cormier took home first place in the 1,600 with a time of 4:40.45.
Ed Pettit from Veribest placed second in the 3,200 with a time of 10:55.27.
Trevin Coffell of Irion County qualified for state in the 300 hurdles with a second-place finish with a time of 40.48.
The Garden City 1,600-meter relay team of Blain Walts, Kamdyn Roe, Denton Roe and John Lopez took home first with a time of 3:30.16. Walts also placed second in the pole vault with a vault of 11-06.
Jordan Harrison from Irion County took home first place in the triple jump with a jump of 43-09.
Blackwell’s Kyler Cummings placed second in the shot put with a throw of 45-00.25.
Region II-A Girls Meet
Veribest's Alliyah Harrison swept the girls 100, 200 and 400 on her way to the Class A state meet.
Irion County’s Audrey Tillman qualified for state with a second-place finish in the 200 with a time of 25.96.
Kinley Cummings from Blackwell took home first place in the 800 with a time of 2:26.43.
Moran’s Ali Scott swept the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles with times of 15.02 and 48.16, respectively.
Bronte’s Emily Jackson also qualified for state in the 300 hurdles with a second-place finish and time of 48.51.
Irion County’s 400-meter relay team of Rainey Melanie, Yant Kyleigh, Callaway Berkley and Audrey Tillman qualified for state with a second-place finish and time of 52.06.
Irion County’s 800 relay team of Rainey Melanie, Yant Kyleigh, Callaway Berkley and Audrey Tillman took home first place at 1:50.99
Moran’s Ali Scott took home first in the high jump with a jump of 5-02 and Bronte’s Emalyn Bohensky placed second with a jump of 5-02.
Robert Lee’s Natalie Immel took home first place in the pole vault with a jump of 9-3.
Audrey Tillman also qualified for state in the long jump with a first-place finish with a 17-02.25.
Alliyah Harrison also placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 36-04.
