Lake City's Matthew Soucinek, UNF assistant coach Jeff Dennis among Florida Amateur leaders

Matthew Soucinek of Lake City, a senior at Southeastern University, shot 4-under-par 68 on Thursday at the Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter to finish the first round of the 106th Florida Amateur one shot off the lead shared by Stanford junior Jake Beber-Frankel of Miami and mid-amateur Jonah Wasserstrom of Hollywood.

University of North Florida assistant golf coach Jeff Dennis is in a tie for fifth after a 69 at the Turtle Creek Club. Sam Nicholson of Atlantic Beach, a University of South Florida junior, shot 70 at Abacoa and UNF senior Davis Lee of Ponte Vedra matched that at Turtle Creek.

Cam Goldknopf and Sam Ohno of Ponte Vedra both shot 72 at Abacoa. Jason Duff, the defending Jacksonville Amateur Champion, Carson Brewer of Ponte Vedra and Connor Holcroft of St. Augustine all shot 73 at Turtle Creek.

Each participant will play one round at Turtle Creek and Abacoa. After the cut is made to the low-70, plus ties, the final round will be at Turtle Creek on Saturday.
