La’el Collins reveals first interaction with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati

Joe Burrow led the Cincinnati Bengals to the Super Bowl last year while being sacked the most out of any quarterback in the NFL. The Bengals gave up 70 sacks (including the playoffs) last season, good for the third-most sacks in one season in NFL history.

Of all of the records you want to rank near the top in, that is not one of them. As most of you know, Burrow tore his ACL and MCL in his rookie season likely in part due to the offensive line issues. You would think that the Bengals would address the need for offensive linemen in the NFL Draft….right?

Wrong.

They decided to get a playmaker in Burrow’s former No. 1 target, Ja’Marr Chase. That move paid off as that dynamic duo set the NFL world on fire last season, but the question still remained, what would they do about their offensive line issues?

They may have found part of the answer in former Dallas Cowboys Offensive Tackle, La’el Collins. The Bengals went back to the Bayou well once again, and Collins had quite a message for his new quarterback.

“Your new bodyguard is in town, no one’s touching you,” Collins said, according to Bengals team reporter Marisa Contipelli.

As a quarterback who was sacked 70 times last season, this quote has got to make you feel great.

If Burrow can throw for 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns while getting sacked 70 times, how much more will he be able to do when he has time in the pocket? That question is sure to keep many defensive coordinators up late at night as we head into the 2022 season.
