L.A. Angels OF Mike Trout opens up about 'legendary' fantasy football league that led to infamous slap

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout opened up about the "legendary" fantasy football league for which he is a commissioner and in which there was a disagreement that led to an altercation before a recent game, when Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tommy Pham slapped San Francisco Giants outfielder Joc Pederson.

Trout spoke about the league during a dugout interview in the middle of Sunday night's game between the Angels and the Mets, which New York won, 4-1.

"That's a legendary fantasy football league right there," Trout said during the interview. "It's the talk of the town right now ... I'll tell you right now, we're probably going to get another commissioner. There's definitely a waiting list. Everybody's calling me and texting me, saying, 'What's up with this league?'

On May 27, Pham had a pre-game altercation with Pederson in the outfield. After they exchanged some words, Pham slapped Pederson, forcing players to get in between them. Pham was scratched from the lineup, and after the game, Pederson admitted that it all stemmed from an argument in a fantasy football league in which Pham had accused Pederson of cheating.

Pham was suspended three games for the incident.

Trout added that there were 12 players in the league. He said it was the first year the league had been in existence. Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman won the league, Trout said.

"I think we've got something brewing for next football season," Trout continued. "We got something brewing with a couple of guys."

Pederson admitted that there were a series of jokes shared in a group text message thread, which included a GIF that he posted that made fun of the San Diego Padres. Pham also took exception to that.

"Yeah," Trout said when asked if it was cutthroat. "Guys are diehard fans of football, myself included. We just obviously love other sports and we all compete."

Pham, in interviews with reporters following the incident, joked about the job Trout did as commissioner, calling him out for not being strict enough to enforce the rules.

“Trout did a terrible job, man,” Pham said, laughing. “Trout is the worst commissioner in fantasy sports because he allowed a lot of (stuff) to go on, and he could’ve solved it all. I don’t want to be the (bleeping) commissioner; I’ve got other (stuff) to do. (Trout) didn’t want to do it. We put it on him, so it’s kind of our fault too because we made him commissioner.”
