Kutztown University football coach Jim Clements named AFCA Division II Region 1 Coach of the Year

Dec. 6—Kutztown University coach Jim Clements has been named the American Football Coaches Association Division II Region 1 Coach of the Year, it was announced Wednesday.

Clements, in his ninth season at KU, has guided the Golden Bears to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the first time in program history. Kutztown beat Slippery Rock 28-16 last Saturday in a national quarterfinal to win its first Super Region One title.

The Golden Bears (12-2) have won 12 straight games to set a program record for wins in a season. Their five victories over ranked opponents this year is also a record.

Kutztown won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East title for the third time in four seasons before defeating PSAC West champion Slippery Rock 31-7 in the PSAC Championship Game on Nov. 11. That victory gave the Golden Bears their second conference title in the past three seasons.

Clements also garnered the award in 2019 and 2021 at Kutztown. He also was named Region 1 Division III Coach of the Year in 2010 while the head coach at Delaware Valley.

Clements was one of five Division II and 20 total regional winners announced Wednesday. The winners will be honored on Tuesday, Jan. 9, during the 2024 AFCA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

Clements has a 79-27 record at Kutztown and is 145-51 in 17 seasons overall, including Delaware Valley.
