Knicks' Jacob Toppin eliminated in first round of 2024 Slam Dunk Contest
Knicks rookie Jacob Toppin was eliminated in the first round of the 2024 Slam Dunk Competition during All-Star weekend on Saturday night in Indiana.
Toppin was the eighth player in franchise history to compete in the event, and he was looking to become the first to win since his older brother Obi Toppin did so during the 2022 All-Star weekend.
Toppin actually implemented Obi into his first dunk of the night, as he jumped over the 7-foot-2 forward and completed a pretty reserve slam, which resulted in a score of 47.8 from the judges.
Needing to make a bit of a splash on his second attempt, the 23-year-old went between the legs and completed a pretty 360 slam, but he questionably received just a 47.2 from the panel.
After Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics responded with a 48 on his second dunk, though, the University of Kentucky product's night came to a swift end.
Brown and Mac McClung advanced to the second round, and for the second straight year, the 25-year-old G-Leaguer took home the dunk championship after he jumped over Shaq for his final slam of the night.
While the judges weren't quite impressed with Toppin's slams, he put together a valiant effort in his first career Slam Dunk appearance.
