Kevin Stefanski and Baker Mayfield spent offseason installing offense, watching tape together

The 2020 Cleveland Browns had to navigate a lot but pulled out a very successful season. With a first-year, first-time head coach in Kevin Stefanski installing his offense and quarterback Baker Mayfield learning, another, new system, what the Browns offense was able to accomplish was impressive.

Add to that all of the canceled practices and losing Odell Beckham Jr. to injury in the middle of the season.

The offense carried the team in 2020 and, while the team added a lot of talent to the defense, the offense could carry the team to greater heights in 2021.

Unlike last year, where Stefanski and Mayfield were just getting to know each other and working through the foundation of the offense, this year the two are in lockstep together.

“Throughout the course of this offseason program going all of the way back to April, we have installed the offense we have watched tape together and we have added new plays and talked about old plays,” Stefanski said. “We have a pretty good feel for where Baker is and really where a bunch of the guys that are returning.”

With Beckham Jr. returning from injury and the addition of Anthony Schwartz’s speed, Cleveland’s offense has a chance to be even more dynamic in year two of Stefanski and Mayfield’s partnership. The two watching film, installing the offense and adding new plays this offseason may play the biggest role in taking the offense to another level.
