Kentucky baseball vs LSU score: Wildcats' historic season ends in NCAA super regionals

LSU 14, Kentucky 0 in Game 1: After a seven-hour delay, the Tigers routed the Wildcats to take a 1-0 lead in the NCAA super regional

LSU 8, Kentucky 3 in Game 2: LSU sweeps Kentucky in NCAA super regional, ending Wildcats' historic season

Kentucky baseball has a chance to make history this weekend.

The No. 12-seed Wildcats (40-19) visit Baton Rouge to take on college baseball powerhouse and No. 5 LSU (46-15) in the NCAA super regionals. It's just the second time UK has made it this far in the postseason, and the first time since 2017.

The best-of-three series began Saturday after a seven-hour weather delay, only for the Tigers to win in a blowout, and the winner punches a ticket as one of the final eight teams in the NCAA tournament to make the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. If Kentucky pulled off the upset, it would be its first trip to Omaha.

Game 2's first pitch is scheduled for 6:06 p.m. ET Sunday.

The Wildcats are in the super regional after beating Indiana twice during the Lexington Regional, including the winner-take-all regional final Monday evening.

To add intrigue to the matchup, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards made a friendly wager over Twitter on Friday morning.

"On the off chance Kentucky wins, I will send you some delicious Louisiana seafood," Edwards wrote, initiating the bet. "When (LSU) wins, you send me some Kentucky bourbon."

Beshear accepted and replied, "I can’t wait to celebrate (UK's) win over a plate of delicious seafood. I’ll go ahead and send you some of our world-famous Kentucky bourbon so we can toast to the #CATS together."
