Karl Rove calls QAnon follower Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene 'a problem for our party'

Republican strategist and Fox News contributor Karl Rove appeared Tuesday on Fox News Primetime where he did not hold back when speaking about freshman GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the QAnon conspiracy supporter who has become a lighting rod in recent weeks as past statements have come to light. Greene had indicated that she doesn’t believe a plane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, and a video resurfaced of her harassing Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg. Then last week, a video from 2018 came out in which Greene claims that California wildfires that year were caused by a space laser controlled by Jews in order to clear room for a high-speed rail project.

House Democrats have demanded that Greene be removed from the Education and Labor Committee, even going so far as to introduce a resolution to strip Greene of both committee assignments on Monday. Though Rove is a staunch Republican, in this case, he agrees with Democrats.

“If you believe that the Jews control a space laser that starts fires in Northern California, and that there’s some unnamed, high-ranking government official who’s got a heretofore unknown security classification called Q, and all of the nutty things that flow with that,” Rove said, “you should be taken off the prestigious House Education and Labor Committee and confined to the dark recesses of the furthest building away from the House floor, and then let the voters decide in the next election. She is a problem for our party.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had much the same view of Greene in a statement released on Monday, calling her a “cancer for the Republican Party.” But while GOP leaders try to figure out what to do with Greene, Rove had some advice for Republicans planning to run for office in 2022.

“We need to figure out what we’re for,” Rove said. “We’re going to find ourselves easy to oppose things that the Biden administration is doing, and that is important, but we’ve also got to decide what we’re for. How do we take our conservative principles and apply them to the changing circumstances of this new century?”

Fox News Primetime airs weeknights at 7 p.m. on Fox News Channel.
