Kansas State football vs. Oklahoma State recap: Cowboys win, 29-21

STILLWATER, Okla. — Kansas State turned the ball over three times and Oklahoma State got a school-record five field goals from Alex Hale to hand the Wildcats a 29-21 Big 12 loss at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Quarterback Alan Bowman threw for 235 yards and Ollie Gordon rushed for 136 to lead Oklahoma State, which had 412 yards total offense. For Kansas State, Will Howard completed just 15 of 34 passes with three interceptions, but did rush for 104 yards on 10 carries. The Wildcats had 220 yards on the ground.

Kansas State had two chances while behind by one score, but came up short both times with one drive ending on an interception and the other on downs.

Oklahoma beats the Wildcats for the third straight time in Stillwater, 29-21.

Kansas State makes it a one-possession game

Will Howard's 6-yard touchdown run gets Kansas State within a possession, capping an eight-play, 75-yard drive, to pull within 29-21. Howard set up the score with a 29-yard run on the play before.

But the Wildcats decided to go for two points, and Keagan Johnson's pass fell incomplete, leading them with eight ponits to make up in the final 8:56.

Alex Hale's fifth field goal extends OSU lead

Kansas State defense did come up with a stop after the offense turned the ball over on downs on its own 24-yard line, but Oklahoma State still made the Wildcats pay.

Alex Hale booted his fifth field goal, a 25-yarder, tying a school record, and the Cowboys lead 29-15 with 11:31 left.

END 3Q: Oklahoma State 26, Kansas State 15

Kansas State finally put together a scoring drive late in the third quarter, answering an Oklahoma State field goal with a 65-yard march in 10 plays, capped by an 11-yard Treshaun Ward touchdown run with 17 seconds left. Will Hoard added a two-point conversion run to make it 26-15 at the end of three quarters.

Cowboys add a field goal for 26-7 lead

Alex Hale has been busy for Oklahoma State, adding to the Cowboy lead with a 31-yard field goal.

The Cowboys lead 26-7 with 4:47 left in the third quarter.

Oklahoma State extends lead, stops K-State

Oklahoma State extended its lead to start the second half with a 53-yard Alex Hale field goal to lead 23-7, and then when K-State answered with a long drive turned the Wildcats back.

K-State had first down at the OSU 15-yard line and second-and-4 at the nine, only to come up empty. On fourth down, there was a miscommunication on the snap, resulting in a 19-yard loss and giving Oklahoma State the ball back.

HALFTIME: Oklahoma State 20, Kansas State 7

The first half could not have gone much worse for Kansas State, especially the final minute, when Oklahoma State put 10 points on the board to lead 20-7 at the break. The Cowboys also get the start to second half.

K-State had a chance to take the lead after scoring to pull within 10-7 on Will Howard's 1-yard touchdown pass to Ben Sinnott early in the second quarter and then getting a goal-line stand and a blocked field goal. But the Wildcats failed to move the ball, and with 55 seconds left Alex Hale kicked a 34-yard field goal for Oklahoma State.

Then, with 34 seconds left in the half, the Cowboy's Cameron Epps picked Howard off for the second time taking it back 35 yards for the touchdown.

Oklahoma State had 287 yards total offense in the half to just 133 for K-State. Howard was just 5 of 11 passing for 11 yards, though he did have a 74-yard run to set up the Wildcat touchdown.

For Oklahoma State, Alan Bowman completed 13 of 22 passes for 199 yards. The Cowboys also had 85 yards on the ground.

Disaster for K-State before halftime

With the clock running down in the first half, the worst thing possible happened for K-State. Will Howard thought Phillip Brooks was running and out route, but he turned upfield, leaving Oklahoma State's Cameron Epps to pick the pass off and run 35 yards for the touchdown.

The Cowboys went up 20-7 with 34 seconds left in the half.

Oklahoma State extends lead with field goal

After stopping Kansas State, Oklahoma State gets right back in field goal range and Alex Hale boots a 34-yarder to give the Cowboys a 13-7 lead with 55 seconds left in the half.

The Cowboy drive went 63 yards in eight plays.

Wildcats make goal-line stand and block field goal

When it appeared that Oklahoma State would answer K-State's touchdown with one of its own, the Wildcats buckled down defensively, denying the Cowboys after a first-and-goal at the 2-yard line. They stopped Ollie Gordon on three straight runs for a net minus-2 yards.

OSU settled for a 21-yard field goal attempt by Alex Hale, which was blocked by Marques Sigle.

Will Howard's big play sets up first K-State score

Kansas State got on the board, thanks to a 74-yard run by Will Howard that first was ruled a touchdown, but brought back a yard on review.

On second and goal from the 1, Howard found tight end Ben Sinnott in the back of the end zone and the Wildcats cut Oklahoma State's lead to 10-7 with 11:59 left in the half.

The drive covered 92 yards in seven plays.

END 1Q: Oklahoma State 10, K-State 0

Oklahoma State gets a 43-yard field goal from Alex Hale with 4 seconds left in the first quarter to cap an eight-play, 47-yard drive. The field goal was set up by a 33-yard Ollie Gordon run and the Cowboys lead 10-0 after one period.

Another game, another pick for Will Howard

Will Howard throws a deep ball that gets picked off by Oklahoma State safety Cameron Epps. Howard has now thrown an interception in all five games.

Cowboys take over at their own 29-yard line with 6:44 left in the first, leading 7-0.

Oklahoma strikes first with lone drive

After Kansas State failed to pick up a first down to start the game, Oklahoma State answers with a 15-play, 72-yard drive and a 2-yard Ollie Gordon touchdown run.

The Cowboys lead 7-0 with 7:54 left in the first quarter. Alan Bowman 6 of 10 passing for 52 yards on the drive.

A three-and-out to start the game marked the first time K-State failed to score on its opening possession this year.

Kansas State takes the ball first

As has been K-State's habit when winning the coin toss, the Wildcats chose to receive.

The aggressive approach has served the Wildcats well as they have scored on every opening drive so far this year.

Kansas State cornerback Jacob Parrish not available

Kansas State starting cornerback Jacob Parrish did not make the trip to Stillwater.

Look for Keenan Garber to take his place alongside Will Lee. Others huddling with cornerbacks coach Van Malone on the sideline included Justice James, Kanijal Thomas and Jordan Wright. It should be noted that Wright, a redshirt junor made a switch from corner to safety during the offseason.

Fall has arrived for Wildcats vs. Cowboys

Football weather has finally arrived for tonight's game with the temperature 45 before kickoff 60 degrees under Wricloudy skies and a blustery north wind at 14 mph.
