June events set at Lake Bemidji State Park

May 25—BEMIDJI — Here is a look at some upcoming events at Lake Bemidji State Park, 3401 State Park Road NE:

* 10 to 10:45 a.m., Thursday, June 2: The Story Tree: The Caterpillar and the Poliwag. In this preschool program, attendees will discover nature through a variety of activities like stories, crafts, games and short walks. They will also have time to play in the nature play area. Children of all ages are welcome, but activities will be designed specifically for children ages 2 to 5. Attendees are asked to dress for the weather and bring a snack and water. Adults must accompany children. Registration is required for this program.

* 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, June 3: Bog Discovery: Ask a Naturalist. Attendees can discover the numerous medicinal plants that grow in the bog at Lake Bemidji State Park. Have all your questions answered by the park naturalist as you stroll along the bog boardwalk. No registration is required.

* 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 4: Outdoor Kids: Fishing at the Pier. Attendees can come and learn how to fish at Lake Bemidji State Park's fishing pier for children ages 6 and older. Registration is required for this program.

* 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 4: Eagle Hike. Attendees will test their eagle knowledge with a fun game of eagle trivia. Afterward, they will take a short walk to see the park's bald eagle nest up close. Meet at the outdoor classroom next to the park playground.

* 10 to 10:45 a.m., Thursday, June 9: The Story Tree: Owl Babies. See previous description.

* 9 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 10: Kid's Fishing Day. Fishing at the Pier. See previous description.

* 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 10: Eagle Hike. See previous description.

* 10 to 10:45 a.m., Thursday, June 16: The Story Tree. Woodpecker Forest. See previous description.

* 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, June 17: Eagle Hike. See previous description.

* 1 to 3 p.m., Friday, June 17: Bog Discovery: Ask a Naturalist. See previous description.

* 10 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18: Fantastic Frogs. A presentation will be given on what makes these amphibians so special. Then, participants will go on a guided hike to look for frogs in the park. Attendees are asked to dress for the weather and bring water. Meet in the visitors center.

* 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 18: Bog Discovery: Bog Trivia. Attendees can stop by anytime between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. to test their bog knowledge at the bog walk trail.

* 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 21: Summer Solstice Evening Hike. Come celebrate the Summer Solstice at Lake Bemidji State Park. Attendees will learn about the solstice while taking an invigorating hike. Toasting marshmallows and a campfire to follow. Attendees are asked to dress for the weather and bring water. Insect repellent and tick protection are recommended.
