Jump around and find out: How to get a fight canceled in Peru minutes before the bell rings
The only thing keeping Miguel Grijalva from one of the most bizarre losses in MMA history is the fact the bell hadn’t rung yet.
Grijalva (8-0) made the trip from Ecuador to Peru for the Fusion Fighting Championship 64 main event against Martin Mollinedo (26-11). He made the walk Thursday, climbed the steps into the cage, did a lap, got to his corner, and excitedly took a few bounces and a big leap into the air.
But when Grijalva landed from that leap, he quickly grimaced. He appeared to say something to an in-cage official, who then seemed to make an “Uh-oh” type face before he slid away. Seconds later, Grijalva was on the canvas grabbing his right knee in what appeared to be a significant amount of pain.
Grijalva, just seconds before his opponent was getting ready to walk from the back, was out of the fight, which online database extraordinaire Tapology presumes to be a no contest since the fight never took place, rather than a loss for Grijalva.
