Julian Edelman speaks on Mac Jones potentially becoming Patriots’ starting QB

Former Alabama quarterback, Mac Jones, was one of the most controversial prospects heading into the 2021 NFL draft. He ended up being the fifth quarterback drafted at No. 15 overall to the New England Patriots.

After Tom Brady departed from the Patriots, the team signed former NFL MVP Cam Newtown to a one-year deal in 2020. Now, they have resigned Newton for one more season.

So, could it really be Newton vs. Jones for the starting job in 2021?

The answer is still unclear, but legendary Patriots wide receiver, Julian Edelman, has weighed in on the matter, he also offered some words of caution for Jones.

“He needs to have that eye,” said Edelman, the Michael Irvin Podcast. “He needs to have that confidence. … What are you going to do? This kid, it’s not easy playing in New England, especially after Tom Brady, if he gets the opportunity and beats out the other guy. This ain’t going to be easy. This town is tough. This town is mean. This town is blue-collar. Boston people, the New England people, they want winning. They’re used to that in all sports. The kid’s going to have a lot of pressure.”

New England fans are certainly used to winning, similar to Alabama fans. Is Jones ready to handle the next level of hardcore fans?
