Journeyman LB Adams Hopes to Shine With Raiders

Tyrell Adams’ path through the NFL thus far has been a winding road of uncertainty. Beginning with being signed by the Seattle Seahawks after going undrafted in the 2015 draft, he’d spend training camp with the team before his release in early September. He would land on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs before his release. Then, he ended up on the Seahawks practice squad for 2 weeks before another cut Adams then landed back on the Chiefs practice squad and would spend the rest of the 2015 season there. Now, he attempts to make the Raiders roster.

In 2016, he signed with the Chiefs as a reserve/future free agent for 2016. Unfortunately, they released Adams at the end of preseason. The next day he signed with their practice squad then two days later got cut again, got all of that? On October 5, 2016, he signed with the Raiders practice squad then the following month promoted to the active roster. This upcoming season Adams will look to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

Nevertheless, his competition will be Neiron Ball, James Cowser, Najee Harris, Cory James, as well as a handful of others look to secure their spot as well. The best chance for him to make it is either as a special teamer or as depth. During his college career at West Georgia, he amassed 128 career tackles with 16 of those for a loss.

This year’s OTA’s saw Ben Heeney still out with injury, which opened up the door for Adams and Cory James. Both are the two with the most experience that are healthy at this point. Del Rio expects Adams to take a big step forward this year. In return, this would spell trouble for Cory James and rookie Marquel Lee. Adams’ ascension pushes them further down the depth chart if Adams can show out for the rest of the offseason. If he makes that leap this year at the Raiders’ weakest position, he could vie for a starting spot sooner rather than later. Especially with injuries affecting his competition at the spot. Adams has an uphill climb this season, but I have a feeling that his story is far from over.
