Joshua Dobbs details throwing with a rugby ball before practice

Former Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs debuted with Minnesota (5-4) in Week 9 of the NFL season.

The Vikings defeated Atlanta, 31-28, on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dobbs completed 20-of-30 passing attempts for 158 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions at Atlanta in his debut. He also rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown on seven attempts.

The former Vol earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 9. He was traded from Arizona to the Vikings on Oct. 31.

Dobbs met with media ahead of Minnesota hosting New Orleans in Week 10.

He was asked about warming up with a rugby ball before practice.

“A lot of people keep asking me that,” Dobbs said. “I like to throw with the rugby ball before practice. It’s just kind of like the baseball bat and the donut, you know, it’s a little heavier baseball bat. Rugby ball is a little bigger than the typical football, a little slicker, and so then when you put a nice QB ball in your hand, it feels pretty good.

“I’ve got receivers now catching it, wanting to catch it pre-practice and stuff, so maybe we’ll start a new trend.”
