John Paul II's Rivera voted Sames Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week
After winning his third consecutive state championship in TAPPS 5A boys triple jump, John Paul II's Armando Rivera has been voted the Sames Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week.
Rivera hit a new personal best mark of 45-feet, 11.25-inches to win the triple jump for the third straight season for the Centurions at the TAPPS State Track Meet in Waco.
Rivera received 25,226 of the 56,875 votes cast, which was 44.4% of all votes.
Rockport-Fulton baseball player Devan Phillips was second with 20,678 votes.
Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport.
Nominations are due each Monday by 5 p.m. and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports.
