Joe Judge happy Giants made no trades at deadline

At 1-7 the New York Giants were rumored to be sellers at the NFL trade deadline. Names like Golden Tate, Evan Engram and Kevin Zeitler were all thrown around as potential trade bait for Big Blue.

However, the trade deadline came and went on Tuesday and the Giants did not make any additional moves.

The Giants were also rumored to have interest in Detroit Lions wide out Kenny Galladay but nothing ever came to materialized.

New York, of course, did trade linebacker Markus Golden to the Arizona Cardinals for a late round pick close to two weeks ahead of the deadline, parting ways with their sack leader from last season.

The Giants made no further trades following the Golden move.

General manager Dave Gettleman has been active in the trade market the last few years between parting ways with Damon Harrison and Eli Apple in 2018 and acquiring Leonard Williams from the New York Jets last year. And it seems as though the Giants were fielding plenty of calls ahead of the deadline but felt comfortable where they were at.

“To be honest with you, we were a lot more active in taking calls than we were in making calls today. We had a lot of people calling about our guys,” head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Tuesday. “Obviously, we’re going to have conversations throughout the organization about anything, that’s our responsibility to do our due diligence. Make sure we’re doing the best for the team. Today was really kind of a busier day with people calling us and having some internal conversations more so than being overly active in that.

“We want to keep building with the guys we have. We have a lot of confidence in the guys we have, and they’re hard work is paying off. There are a lot of calls that come in. Obviously, guys looking to fill positions they have of need. But for us, we’re not looking to go ahead and make anyone else’s roster for them.”

As the Giants continue to build their extremely youthful roster, it’s clear they want to keep their core to build around — and why not? There has been some obvious progress.

It’s clear from the Judge’s comments that there is not only trust between he and Gettleman, but it also seems that the head coach is heavily involved in the decision-making process.
