Joe Flacco sets 45-year 4th-quarter passing yards mark for Browns
Joe Flacco can’t stop setting Cleveland Browns records.
The veteran quarterback’s 212 passing yards in the fourth quarter was the most by a Browns player in 45 years, according to ESPN. Flacco carved up the Chicago Bears’ secondary in the game’s final frame to pull off the incredible comeback win in Week 15. He hit wide receiver Amari Cooper on a 51-yard touchdown with three minutes left in the game and connected with tight end David Njoku on two 30-yard passes to set up a game-winning touchdown.
Flacco has been revelatory as the Browns quarterback this season. He finished the game with 374 passing yards – his second 300-yard passing game this season. Flacco did throw three interceptions, but the fourth-quarter heroics were enough to overcome the turnovers.
The 38-year-old now has 939 passing yards in his three starts for seven touchdowns. That’s almost as much as Deshaun Watson accomplished in six games this season. Flacco also is 2-1 with the team and has them knocking on the door of the AFC playoffs with a 9-5 record.
Flacco set a few other team records this season as well. He already became the oldest quarterback to attempt a pass and throw a touchdown in franchise history and has the third-most wins by a quarterback at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
It took four tries, but the Browns have their quarterback for the 2023 season.
