Joe Burrow to miss ‘several weeks’ with a calf sprain

The Cincinnati Bengals seem to have averted disaster with quarterback Joe Burrow.

After the former LSU star was carted off the field with a calf injury on Thursday, and after practice on Friday — which Burrow was absent from — coach Zac Taylor confirmed that it’s a calf strain for Burrow and that he will miss several weeks.

It seems optimistic Burrow will return for the start of the regular season, though Taylor shied away from saying that. Still, he’s likely to miss the remainder of training camp and possibly all or part of the preseason.

The injury was non-contact and came while he was rolling out to the right. He limped off the field clearly in pain.

Burrow led the Bengals to the AFC Championship Game last year in his third season in the league. The prior year, Burrow and Cincy reached the Super Bowl.
