Jockey Club to recognize 16 on Tuesday at Hodel's

Oct. 17—A Sweet 16 of area student-athletes will be recognized by the Bakersfield Jockey Club between 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hodel's Country Dining.

Girls golfers Mayra Martinez of Shafter and East High's Adrianna Galvan will be recognized, along with Leslie Aquino (East girls cross country), Isabelle Zavala (East volleyball), Aaliyah Ayon and Lucely Parra (Arvin volleyball), Sutton Thompson (Frontier volleyball), Atzin Anguiano (Shafter boys cross country), Joel Gutierrez and Koa Rhodes (Shafter football), Gabriel Gutierrez (East football), Chris Carlos and Andres Alcaraz (Arvin football). Taft College volleyball players Jada Dias, ShaCe Niu and Kailee Wakatake) will also receive awards.

The athletes' coaches will also scheduled to attend: Kevin Eubanks (Shafter girls golf), Ray Adams (East girls golf), Ryan Olson (East girls cross country), Yvette Torres (East volleyball), Brandi Randle (Arvin volleyball), Katie Gardenhire (Frontier volleyball), Jose Espinoza (Shafter boys cross country), Jerald Pierucci (Shafter football), Bibi Carrasco (East football), Robert Riley (Arvin football) and Mallori Rossi (Taft College volleyball).

Local news anchor and reporter Mike Hart will serve as the guest presenter, with the Kern High School District sponsoring the event. The public is invited, with breakfast being served for a cost of $15.
