Former NFL player and TV analyst JJ Watt caught some attention for his spiky hair during CBS' Super Bowl broadcast.

JJ Watt had an eventful Super Bowl broadcast, and it wasn't for anything the CBS commentator said.

The Pewaukee native, former University of Wisconsin star and future NFL Hall of Famer debuted a hairstyle that seized control of the internet discourse during parts of Sunday's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. His spiky ... 90s inspired? ... look was met with some major curiosity. And comparisons.

Watt, to his credit, is still having fun with it. He posted to X on Thursday using some playfully selected words with a picture of him sitting on the Super Bowl set: "Ratings spiked to their highest peaks in history. Honored to be a small part of a crew that gels together so well."

When you set audience records, you get to brag, even with a dash of self-deprecation.

Watt's level of self-awareness on the issue was plain to see even during the broadcast, when he acknowledged that, yes, he knew the haircut was trending.

His hair was also a topic of conversation on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday.

"All of them are fair," Watt deadpanned of the criticisms. "I like it, so I really don't care. There's some Guy Fieri there, there's certainly some Sugar Ray, there's definitely a little 90s boy band action. … I absolutely loved the memes and the jokes. They were hilarious."

Here's a look back at some of the memorable reactions to his new look:

The ratings (and his hair) aren't the only thing pointing upward. Watt's foundation announced it had crossed a threshold of donating $7 million to underserved middle school athletics programs across the country.
